Rec board says thanks A Note from Betty Another great summer week - happy folk on holidays and lots of events to anticipate for the rest of us. The Gowing kids had a gathering at the farm of Rosemary and Dave Wheeler over the weekend. They were celebrating the silver wedding anniversaries of Dave and Lynda Gowing and Nancy and Bruce Corrigan. They started the celebrations with the Waterloo/St. Jacobs train ride followed by a picnic there. Since this is Betty’s crew the food continued right on to supper, brunch on Sunday and more food with stories for Sunday afternoon. Like all reunions the stories, spoken from selective memory, of the farm and growing up with Carl and Betty were plentiful and full of family love. Dave and Rosemary had 35 guests for the weekend and Betty enjoyed her offspring from Kemptville, London, Mitchell, Merrickville, Brantford, and of course the ones we know from Brussels and Bluevale. Memories! While enjoying the terrific music at the Waterloo Jazz Festival on the weekend I felt right at home when I noticed the tent we were sitting in belonged to the Backert’s from Walton - comfy. The folks organizing Kid’s Corner for Aug. 9 - 13 are getting worried. They have received very few registrations. Relieve their anxiety please and get the registrations in. If you’ve ever been in on the set-up end of any event you know that you need to have numbers to prepare. So do your thing and get the registrations in for your children, your neighbours and your friends. They will have a great time but preparation is essential. Drop the forms at the 5R's. If you’re in need of forestry byproducts and are in the Cranbrook suburbs take along a bag and visit the Workman folk. They’ll oblige your needs. Bye now, Betty G. NORTH HURON GARDENS PAGE 2. She also reported that the insurance for the Huron County Men’s Fastball Tournament will cost approximately $168 for the two days. This cost will be split equally between the league and recreation board. Blake did not foresee a problem. The Board also discussed Harvey Edgar while the ladies lone hand prize went to Isabel. There were other lucky door prizes and of course a delicious lunch. The board has had a few complaints concerning children being sent home from public swimming due to the fact there aren’t enough children present. Mary Stretton proposed the idea of taking down the privacy fence at the pool and putting up a chain linked fence instead. The chain linked fence would allow the public to be able to see inside the pool area better which would hopefully help to keep the vandals out. The board will discuss this idea at the end of the pool season. 400m run and third in the 800m run. Evan Horst placed third in the high jump.
