Bicycle stolen On July 1 at approximately 11 a.m. a bicycle was reported stolen from a place on Queen Street in Blyth. The owner advised that a purple 18 speed Trek mountain bicycle had been left outside the Blyth Inn the night before between 10:30 p.m. and 1 a.m. When he came out the bike was gone. The bike had black fenders and black saddle baskets on it with a serial number of BT800SP18P. Anyone who comes across this bicycle is asked to contact the local OPP or Crime Stoppers. Kathy’s Korner By Kathy Bromley On Friday, July 2 the monthly Blyth and area Dining Out luncheon was held, sponsored by the Town and Country Homemakers. This attracted 34 diners to Blyth Anglican Church. Again another mouth-watering meal was served. Millie Hoggarth prepared the meal of roast beef, mashed potatoes, peas, coleslaw, complete with angel food cake, covered with vanilla pudding and a cherry on top. One meal was delivered to Adrian Vos and Vera Badley. Vera Hesselwood was the winner of the door prize, while Cenetta Bainton had the lucky ticket for the 50/50 draw. Those celebrating birthdays in July are Cenetta Bainton, Julie Kennedy and Sally deBoer. Happy Birthday was sung. Although there were no anniversaries to be mentioned, a special announcement was made by Kathy Bromley, congratulating co-ordinator Leah Davis who is expecting her first child in January of 2000. Unfortunately, no pickles or ice cream were available but she stressed she could make do! She then introduced the guest, who is no stranger to anyone, as he is often seen in newspapers or heard on the radio - Const. Don Shropshall of the Ontario Provincial Police. He provided a video entitled “Travelling Alone”, based on incidents that had actually happened concerning women, some of them in this area. Portions of the show sent chills through me while observing it. Afterwards, discussions were held. I would like to mention “Partners in Policing Crime Prevention”. Public safety is a big issue in our small local areas. Now in Blyth and Brussels we have a partnership with the OPP in order to share public safety responsibilities and achieve these goals. This partnership is referred to as community policing. In our area, as we cover a larger radius, we are established as “North Huron Community Policing Committee”. A more secure and safer community contributes to a healthier lifestyle that we can enjoy. More people are welcome to become involved. Sr. Const. Shropshall stressed this type of program is very helpful for both them and us. The next meal ft scheduled for Aug. 6, so plan to attend.
