Graduation 1999 Brussels students say what tomorrow may bring Crystal McLellan, Brook Wheeler Continued from page 15 whales in Marineland. And here comes number 33, Troy Backhaus, driving his brand new Yamaha dirt bike, sponsored by Microsoft, which now has a proud new owner, the billionaire, and com puter whiz, Blair Smith. Hey wait, isn't that Sean Hoegy, the owner of Brussels Agri Services sitting with his competition. He shoots, he scores! Evan Horst number 42 is fulfilling his dream of playing in the professional soccer league. Whose beautiful teeth are those? Oh, of course, Brittany Kellington’s with her braces off, but wait, is she putting braces on another little girl? ATTENTION! Left, right, left, right, left. Those are the words that you’ll hear Jessica Kessel saying while leading her air cadets. Jenna Krotz has got to be the busiest optometrist in the business. Ranking in at only 5' 5" today’s slam-dunkin’ all-star basketball play er is David Ladoucer. We’re absolutely sure that Ben Leger will lean into the advertising business due to all of the experience that he’s had delivering the local fly ers. We can picture Josh Nichol as the new generation of Steve Austin the World Wrestling Federation Champion, although he may need to gain a few pounds. Besides that note, who’s that chill in’ dude gliding down the slopes of Talisman? I bet it’s Corey Passmore the new snowboarding instructor. As you send your little ones off to school at BPS every time they get a boo-boo, they’re sure to see Laurie Prior, the new secretary of Brussels Public School. 3,2, 1. And he’s off, Curtis has just left on a new mission with NASA. Boy, is he lucky! There goes Jodi, running. Man can she run fast, butj guess you’d have to with eight kids! Kyle, I’m sure, will take after his grandfather and become a manager of a bank. Maybe it’ll be CIBC! Yes, that’s Megan walking down the runxway modeling her big, baggy jeans for the Jean Machine. With ail of the knowledge Chris has about cars, we're sure that he’s going to be a salesman for Dodge. Last but not least, we know we’ll be hearing “I object!” in the court rooms quite a bit from Nicole! Well, I guess she wasn’t last. There’s still the two of us. So, what do you think you'll grow up to be Crystal? I don't know what about you Brook? Well, I’m kind of thinking about becoming a famous pianist! Ya, maybe I’ll end up being a professional hockey play er! I DON’T THINK SO! Whatever we do, and wherever we go, although we may no longer be together we will always cherish the memories we had at Brussels Public School. The friendships we have made will always hold a big part in our hearts. Valedictorian shares memories of EWPS grads Continued from page 16 performed that year. Everyone remembers Sherri and Kerri’s multi coloured wigs when they played the Ishmaelites. In Grade 7 out teachers were Mr. Harrison and Mrs. Daer. Ashley and Jody came. We had our trip to Niagara Falls, where we went to Marineland. When we were watching the whale show at Marineland most of us got soaked by the water. When the summer was over it was time to go into Grade 8, the last grade of public school. We had always feared it because it sounded so hard. (By the way, it was.) Shana came the first day. This was the best year; we were the oldest of the school. I will always remember the time in Quebec at the Cafe De Paris when Jody and Ashley asked the waiter if they could take his picture. I wonder why. Or when Jeremy was sleeping on the bus and someone stuck something up his nose. In class every time Mr. Bartlett asked Kyle a question he would start laughing and then the whole class would crack up. When Mr. Barlett asked Ryan a question he would say “uh” before everything he said. Then Mr. Bartlett would ask him why he said “uh” and he would say it again before he answered the question. Jacquie had a habit of putting up her hand, then forgetting what she was going to say. After Krista was done her piano lesson she would qui etly open the door and practically tip toe to her desk. Igor came around Christmas time right before our Christmas dance. Jenni asked him to dance and he did. He taught us a different way of danc ing. One day in math Mr. Bartlett asked Matt why he changed desks and Matt said because Kristen told him to. Then Matt said he doesn’t listen to his mom as much as he listens to Kristen, because Kristen is scarier than his mom. In math class if you needed help on a question Shana was the one you would talk to. Other people may be there to help us, teach us, guide us along our path, but the lesson to be learned is always-ours. Most people have changed over the years, by growing, becoming more responsible, and maturing. (Don’t worry I won’t mention any names). My mother always said, “The older you get, the better you get unless you’re a banana.” We have learned to take on more responsibilities, chal lenges, homework and projects and from what I’m told it ail pays off. Most of the Grade 8s are ready to move on. We may be scared about high school but we are excited at the same time because it’s new and is a change. Thanks to the teachers for teaching us, and putting up with us all through Valedictorian bids farewell to SPS Continued from page 19 Kevin has the best imagination out of all the Grade 8s especially in his creative writing and his Lego build ing skills. Whenever you read one of his stories, you’ll always be sur prised. Cassie is a very special girl who always has a smile for you and loves to listen to music. We all know Chris and he never has anything bad to say about any one. Actually, he never has anything to say. He is a very hard-working student and I know he will be suc cessful in the future. This year, Trisha, Geoff and Barry were on the students’ council. Barry was the president while Trisha was the vice-president and Geoff was the treasurer. Together, they worked hard to fulfill their duties and accomplish their goals. Great job! Maybe students’ council will be the job for you in high school as well. Most of us are heading off to Seaforth High in September, but to those of us who decide to venture off to different schools I would like to wish you good luck and hopefully we’ll be able to keep in touch and remain friends. I looked up the word valedictorian in the dictionary and it refers to a person in the graduating class cho sen to give the farewell speech. And so, as your valedictorian this year, I bid you farewell, good luck, have a great summer and see you in September. public school. Also to the parents who gave love and support, and for putting up with our whining and com plaining when we thought we had too much homework. I’d like to end by saying, guard your thoughts. What you think, you are. Be a master of your habits or they will master you. Don’t let the crowd pressure you. Stand for something or you’ll fall for anything. Two things I have learned from public school: are a little kindness and confidence can make a great dif ference. Strength and courage aren’t always measured in medals and victo ries, but in the obstacles we over come. The strongest people aren’t always those who win but the ones who don’t give up. Always live each day of life to its fullest. Hullett Continued from page 18 or not, as long as we dream a dream, make a wish, set a goal, and step towards the future with confidence, we should always be proud of ourselves. Each of us in this room has a special person who has been important in our life. Hopefully, this friendship and new ones will continue our quest to the future.
