Rev. Hobden says goodbye
Cam. Mary, Jennifer and Ryan
greeted worshippers at Knox
United Church on Sunday, June 27.
The senior choir sang His Grace is
Sufficient accompanied by
Elizabeth Procter.
The children gathered in the front
pew for story time which centered
around “In Remembrance of Me”
as printed on the communion table.
Rev. Mary Jane Hobden stressed
that they are not the future of the
church; but that they are the
present. “God always loves you no
matter how small you are. God will
go with you children on your
journey just as he does with us.
God is always with us,” she said.
The Old Testament reading was
taken from Isaiah 6: 1-9. The
gospel lesson was from John 10;
14-18.
Rev. Hobden’s message
pertained to good things coming in
small packages and in this regard
she said she prefers small pastoral
charges such as Belgrave Pastoral
Charge. God called Rev. Hobden to
come here five years ago to share
God’s message and show she has
been called to share her faith and
venture further into the world
taking a new step in ministry.
Kim Higgins and Amy Barnes
were in charge of the nursery. Scott
Folkard, Paul Walker, Ken Procter
and John Dorsch took up the
offering.
Members of Session, Cathy
Walker, Mabel Wheeler, Florence
McArter, Mary Hunter, John
McIntosh, John Anderson and
George Procter passed out the
communion with the sharing of the
bread and cup.
A banner was dedicated made by
Ruth Gordon with material
supplied by Doris Michie.
Rev. Hobden stated that a
ministry began together on July 1,
1994. In September of that year,
they celebrated with a service this
new ministry. It was now time to
give thanks for the life shared in
Christ.
“It’s also time for me to move on
to the next chapter in my spiritual
journey on which the Lord is
leading me,” she said. “I have
found our time together rewarding
and memories of what we have
shared will always remain precious
and meaningful. And now it is time
for me to go forth having restored
to you the signs of office which
you entrusted to me.”
Calvin Brick friends joined in
social time.
Prior to lunch Cathy Walker
presented Rev. Hobden with a
beautiful clock and Lila Procter
presented her with a picture of the
stone that was placed at the
Belgrave Park on behalf of the
congregation. Stephen was
presented with a train.
Rev. Hobden and her family will
certainly be missed by the
congregation and friends of the
community. They are wished the
best in their new location.
During the month of July, Rev.
Chris Johnson (887-6259) and Rev.
James Murray (887-6540) will be
covering any pastoral care
emergencies. During the month of
August Rev. Cathrine Campbell
(887-9831) will be doing so.
Anyone who knows of someone
needing pastoral care (hospital
visit, nursing home visit, etc.)
contact Joanne and she will make
the arrangements.
On Sunday, July 4 Warren Wray
will be the guest speaker and
Melissa Whitmore will be the guest
speaker on Sunday, July 11.
On Sunday, July 4 the Brandon
Cemetery Service will be at 2 p.m.
with Rev. Cathrine Campbell in
charge.
Service for July will be held in
Knox at 11:15 a.m. Calvin Brick
folk and Presbyterian neighbours
have been invited. Services for
August will be held at Knox
Presbyterian at 9:30 a.m.
Still cooking
Under a tarp, the cooking went on Sunday morning as heavy rains threatened to dampen
the Grey Twp. firefighters breakfast. There was a full firehall as the community turned out to
help pay for new fire equipment.

Zwep took his turn next in goal.
