Congrats
Bill and Fran Bremner celebrated 50 years of marriage,
joined by family, friends and neighbours at their Brussels
home on Saturday. (Ashiey Gropp photo)
A Note from Betty
This has been a week of roller coaster emotions - the highs of celebrating
the end of school days with the kids, the anticipation of year-end parties, the
graduation nights - each an ending, and a new beginning. With the end of
school each new young graduate is handed another task, a new set of
privileges and responsibilities. And each child who is taking that new step,
is also carrying several adults on the journey. Their sole job? Watching with
joy and anticipation as the road map is revealed.
So to the neighbours, the friends and of course the families of the newest
set of graduates, keep up the good work of loving them for who they are and
continue to encourage their original thoughts. This will make ours a better
world because they are an important part of it.
The north end of town was hopping on Saturday as Bill and Fran Bremner
showed us how to celebrate 50 years of marriage. First put together family,
friends, food and fun then throw in music, a tent, children, excellent weather
AND the Bower girl - alias Dorothy Shaw Thompson of uptown Bluevale
and you have one great celebration. Congratulations Fran and Bill.
And then Frankie died. Friend to at least three generations of wiener
loving children, and to their parents who knew a Schneider’s wiener would
be sneaking over or around the meat counter from the loving hand of Frank
or Lois. Frank was one of those fellows who was ahead of his time -
remember Derek - no better place for him to work than the meat market.
And how many of you know Frank as the original instant teller.
Frank was one of those fellows who didn’t like to be praised or
complimented but was much happier when you had a joke or a big friendly
wave for'him. Can you imagine the argument going on in heaven as Doc
gives Frank the hearty welcome?
To Lois and Paul go our sympathy, and our thanks for sharing him with
us.
Don’t waste time - enjoy each minute.
Bye now,
Betty G.
Thieves
hit
pool
On June 27 at approximately
11:30 a.m. a break-in was reported
at the Brussels Lion Community
pool
The staff upon arriving at the
pool found that someone had
entered the premises during the
night. Thieves had climbed over a
chain link fence into the swimming
area. Once inside they forced open
a storage area door and went into
the main part of the building. They
then forced open a cabinet and
searched the drawers of other
cupboards. They attempted to force
open a pop machine leaving the bar
struck in the machine door.
Nothing at this time appears to be
missing, but a lot of damage was
done to the property. Anyone who
has information that can lead to an
arrest is asked to contact the Huron
OPP or Crime Stoppers.

Bremners mark 50th
It was a gathering of friends and
family when William and Frances
Bremner celebrated their 50th wed
ding anniversary at their home in
Brussels.
Married on June 25, 1949, at
Bluevale Presbyterian Church, the
bride was the daughter of Frank
and Elsie Shaw and the groom’s
parents were James and Ethel
Bremner.
Rev. Jorgensen performed the
ceremony.
The attendants were Nora Shaw,
MaryLou McFarlane and Dorothy
Shaw.
The groomsmen were Barry
Bremner, Charley Shaw and
Delmer Dillswortb.
After honeymooning in Niagara
Falls, the couple settled on Cone.
12, Grey Twp.
Mr. Bremner kept very busy as a
farmer, inventor and maintenance
mechanic while the couple raised
10 children.
The Bremners are the proud par
ents of Doug, Barb, Murray, Bon
nie, Rob, Barry, Jerry, June, Shawn
and Scott as well as the grandpar
ents of 20.
They are members of Brussels
United Church and the Royal Cana
dian Legion.
Wilbees II entertained at the
gathering.
Most of the wedding party reunit
ed at the head table for the cutting
of the cake ceremony.
The wedding song Because was
sung by a family friend, Diane
Greenhalgh.
On June 25 at approximately
2 a.m. thieves broke into the
Brussels Community Centre in
Brussels.
Someone pried open the fire exit
door on the east side of the building
gaining entry into the premises.
Once inside the intrusion alarm was
activated. The contact persons and
the OPP officers responded to the
alarm arriving within 15 minutes.
The culprits had tied the area by
this time and were last seen driving
away from the community centre.
A witness saw a dark coloured
smaller pickup truck with noisy
exhaust leave the arena and head
south on County Rd. 12.
The thieves didn’t get anything
from the arena but did cause some
damage to the door.
Anyone who can assist with
finding the persons responsible for
this break-in is asked to contact the
Huron OPP or contact Crime
Stoppers.

What a fantastic turnout for the
Legion Fish Fry this past Saturday!
The fish lovers enjoyed an array of
salads and deep fried fish and
french fries. Ice cream for dessert
cooled them off and topped them
off.
The weather didn't co-operate on
Sunday for the annual Cemetery
Decoration Service so it was
cancelled and is rescheduled
tentatively for July 25.
President Linda Bird attended the
Brussels Public School Grade 8
graduation this past Friday night.
She awarded proficiency awards to
Brooklyn Wheeler and Corey
Passmore. The Brussels Legion
also sponsored track and field
medallions which were presented to
eight recipients. Congratulations!
