Western Region B-champs took place recently with the Huron Hurricanes in attendance. Western Region includes most of Southern Ontario south and west of Toronto, from St. Catharines to Windsor. This meet is a championship meet and therefore has times that must be met in order to qualify. Those who qualify are in the fastest 30 per cent in the region. However, anyone achieving five provincial qualifying times is no longer eligible to compete at this level. Patricia Makas and Alicia spent Sunday at the same home. Mabel’s Moms met at their regular time on Wednesday, June 16. Their topic was “Summer Holidays”. Muriel Coultes, Belgrave and Velma Morningstar of Lucknow represented the Wingham and Area Palliative Care Association on June 11 and 12 at the first Provincial retreat for volunteers. The retreat was held at Trent University, Peterborough and was sponsored by the Glaxo Welcome Foundation. A family luncheon was held at the home of Brian, Alison and breaststroke, the 100 breaststroke, the 100 backstroke, and the 50 backstroke. He won bronze in the 50-metre butterfly, the 50-metre freestyle, the 100-metre freestyle and the 200-metre backstroke. Melanie McCann placed eighth in the 50-metre backstroke. In the 11 and 12 age group, Kellyann Vandendool placed eighth in the 200 backstroke. The Hurricanes took lots of medals in the 13-14 division. Aaron Datars was the leader with seven. He won silver in the 1500- metre freestyle, and the 400-metre Autumn Wightman of Auburn following the baptism of Sydney Alison in Knox United Church, Belgrave on Sunday, June 13. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Wightman, Auburn; Mr. Harvey Wightman of Lucknow and Bill and Muriel Coultes of Belgrave were luncheon guests. Other family members gathered in the afternoon. Ray and Cindy, Victoria and Alexandra Nicholson of Elmira and Rob and Judy Nicholson of Listowel visited Sunday with their parents Alice and Garner Nicholson. Wawanosh council news East Wawanosh council at its June 15 meeting, granted approval to the Belgrave and District Kinsmen for a liquor licence and special occasion permit for the Community Festival July 14 - 18, or alternative rain dates. The Ontario Coalition of Senior Citizens Organization and Ontario Brain Injury Association were given permission to sell Rainbow TV Bingo Cards in the township. A letter is to be sent to the Ministry of the Environment with a copy to Wingham advising no problems have been encountered with the Wingham Municipal Waste Disposal Site. Council also supports the application for an amendment to the “Certificate of Approval” in order that Wingham may continue to use the disposal site until full capacity is reached. Bantam Girls win, lose The Brussels Bantam Girls hosted Holmesville and came away with a 15-9 victory. Brussels scored five runs in the first by Sara Little, Chrissy Mason, Amy Douma, Lesley Pepper and Nicole Mastnak. Seven runs were plated in the second. The big hit was a home run by Jodi Semple that scored Katie Clark and Leanne Buck ahead of Platers end season The Corbett boys of Brussels ended their summer hockey season with the Saugeen City Platers Major Novice squad on a winning note. The team competed in a year-end tournament at Teen Ranch in Orangeville, taking the champi­ onship. Friday morning, they topped Collingwood in a 4-3 win. Chris Corbett tallied two with Rhys Thomas and Grant Cochrane adding singles. Later that day, Corbett, Thomas, Derek Scott and Mitchell Ferguson each bulged the twine to earn the Platers a 4-2 victory over the Lak­ eridge Bullets. The winning continued on Satur­ day when they met the host Teen Ranch squad. Scoring for the Platers in the 6-1 win were Adam Corbett, C. Cor­ bett, Jordan Wright, Conor Gill, Scott and Cochrane. The Platers shut out the Midwest Mustangs of Listowel in the last of the round-robin play, finishing with the most points. C. Corbett notched three and Scott added one. The Platers and Mustangs met for the tournament final Sunday after­ noon. The Platers went undefeated, capturing a 5-1 victory. Scorers were C. Corbett (two), Kevin McArter (two) and Derek Widmeyer. her. The home team then completed the scoring with three more in the fourth. Nicole Lowe and Lesley Pepper shared mound duties. Two nights later they travelled to Clinton and came up on the short end of a 16-14 defeat. PeeWees lose The Hullett PeeWees took a loss against Clinton June 16 when they were defeated 22-7. Though Hullett scored first, they were unable to hold off the strong hitters from Clinton. Down 7-5 after two, Hullett allowed 15 while scoring only two. Dawn Dolmage, Kelly Ann Van­ dendool, Maegan Reinhart and Ashley Falconer pitched.
