Guild meets in church parlour
A Note from Betty
Summer is officially here, June 21, the longest day of the year formally
announces summer. I’m never sure what I should do on June 22 since it’s
felt like summer for a month.
The high school gang are doing exams this week then it’s on to summer -
memories and a yearbook for their work. Good luck in your next venture.
Glenna Stephens missed her Brussels friends and we’re pleased she’s
taken up life at Huronlea. Welcome Glenna.
It seems to me June is Family Reunion Month, in many venues, at various
times and always with good food. It’s one of those deals that improve as you
age. At certain ages you kids actually enjoy reunions as the stories of your
youth unfold, in only the manner that family can tell. Hope yours is a good
one - full of great memories.
It’s definitely time to smell the roses - there are many colours and types to
admire this week.
The June meeting of Melville
Church Women’s guild was held in
the church parlour with Jeanne
Ireland and Isobel Gibson in charge
of the devotions part of the
meeting.
Jeanne Ireland read Psalm 39: 4
followed by a paper on “Aging”.
To live to a ripe old age, just don’t
die. Try to be mature enough to age
with grace and be contented and
happy. Man looks at outward
appearance but God looks at heart.
Isobel Gibson led in prayer
which was followed by the singing
of Simply Trusting Everyday.
June being the month to celebrate
Father’s Day. Mrs. Gibson read a
story entitled “How Father Came to
be King for a Day”. She also read a
thought-provoking topic on “other
Times and Other Ways” which
brought back many memories to all
those present.
Mrs. Ireland closed this part of
the meeting with a poem, “A Smile
Says a Lot”.
Alice Marks, president, opened
the business part of the meeting
with a poem entitled, “Garden
Musings”. Sympathy was extended
to Helen Elliott on the passing of
her sister-in-law, Wilma Elliott.
Leona Armstrong gave the
secretary’s report and Jeanne
Ireland the treasurer’s report.
Bye now,
Betty G.
Majestic takes mystery tour
The June meeting of Majestic
Women’s Institute took the form of
a mystery tour. Kathy Bridge and
Ruth Bauer were the organizers.
In the morning of June 9 the
members had a conducted tour of
Terry Brandon’s home on William
Street. This was most interesting.
Terry is to be commended for
restoring this heritage home.
The members then drove to
Seaforth where they had lunch and
a short meeting at Sparky’s.
Members who are planning to
have meals at the Area Convention
should pay for them now.
The WI members are interested
in helping to clean up the
roadsides.
Happy Birthday was sung to
members having a birthday in June,
July and August.
The next stop on the Mystery
Tour was at Kountry Essence, three
miles east of Londesboro. Lynn
Depati had every scent in a candle
you could think of. This was very
interesting and the tour was over. It
was very much enjoyed by all.
ID needed to donate blood

needed a lung and heart transplant.
“Right now we are recruiting all
blood types, especially O Rh
negative because it is the universal
group that can be given to anyone
in an emergency and this is the
time of year when there are
increased vehicle accidents where
victims may require as much as
three body replacements of blood
within 24 hours.
Did you know that if everyone
donated just one more time, we
could avoid blood shortages?”
Identification is required. Also
please wait three days after a dental
visit.
