Making a donation
Brenda Brown represented the Blyth Legion, June 3,
when the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special
Olympics ran through Blyth. She presented OPP Officer
Russell Nesbitt with a cheque.
A helping hand
Eileen Davidson and Bev Blair of the Blyth Lions Club
presented OPP Officer Russell Nesbitt with a cheque,
June 3, in support of The Law Enforcement Torch Run for
Special Olympics.

Students do well at meet
Wingham
Maitland Women’s Institute
hosted the 99th annual meeting of
Huron West District WI, May 31 in
the Salvation Army Citadel,
Wingham.
President Jean Plaetzer
welcomed the 45 in attendance.
The minutes and treasurer’s
report were given by the secretary
treasurer, Reta Kelland.
The Ratification of District
Directors of’Branches Auburn,
Belgrave, Dungannon, Londesboro,
Maitland and St. Helen’s, was
given by Donna MacPherson,
Embro, representative on the
provincial advisory council.
The entertainment for the day
included soloist Krista Hewitt and
Elaine Errington reading a poem
with a catchy ending. The Huron
East WI choir favoured with some
oldies like Bluebird on Your
Window Sill, Four Winds and
Manitoba Moon.
Huron East and South brought
greetings and Leona Armstrong
gave information on the upcoming
IPM.
Belgrave Branch was in charge
of the craft and bake table.
Proceeds were $l 17.
The 4-H report was given by
Kim Higgins, RR 5, Brussels. She
gave out postcards and information
on the Ontario 4-H Council. They
are also involved with the
International Plowing Match at
hosts District WI
Dashwood.
A donation was made to Friends
for 4-H.
Safe and Healthy Communities
was the topic of guest speaker
Donna MacPherson. She told of her
experience with doctors and
problems with her health. She has
many books that have been helpful
and one in particular in Run With
Your Dreams.
Reports were given from the
standing committees and the 1999-
2000 officers were installed. They
are: past president, Jean Plaetzer;
president, Lois Elliott; first vice,

The annual track and field meet
was held at Seaforth Public School
on May 27. Many students from
Blyth school participated with a
number bringing back ribbons.
The overall winners from the
school were: Midget Boys - tied
third, Blake Miller and Adam
Young; Intermediate Boys - first,
Justin Peters; Senior Boys -
second, Andy Toll; Midget Girls -
tied first, Brittney Peters; third,
Alyssa Gross; Junior Girls - third,
Amanda Bearss; Intermediate Girls
- first, Jenna Taylor; second,
Michelle Cook.

The Grade 2/3 class is busy
firfishing up the school year. They
have been publishing poetry books
and story books.
The Grade 3s have been learning
how to write in cursive writing.
In science they have been
studying plants and testing several
experiments. For math, Grade 3 is
working on geometry and Grade 2
is learning about time and two digit
subtraction.

Mrs. Hulley’s Grade 7/8 class
has been very busy this week
getting their hands dirty by helping
to plant a garden. The produce that
is collected will be donated to the
food bank. The village of Blyth
donated the land for the use of the
class.
The Grade 7/8s would like to
thank Mr. Siertsema and Mrs.
Battye. Mr. Siertsema worked the
plot and showed the students how
to plant the seeds. Mrs. Battye
helped plant the potatoes and the
com.
They have also planted other
produce such as squash, potatoes,
com, etc. as well as flowers beside
our school.
The Grade 7/8s had a tour of the
Blyth Theatre. They enjoyed the
tour and hopefully learned some
new information relating to the
theatre and drama.

display. A vote of thanks was
expressed to Mary Hunter for her
sewing and design.
Going for a walk
Blyth Public School students and staff took the
opportunity of a beautiful day and the Greenway Trail to
go for a walk, Friday morning.
