There weren’t too many pitches getting past the Brussels Tigers on Friday night as they blasted a visiting Zurich Rangers Squad 1 1-3 (Mark Nonkes photo) Tigers claw back to win game 11-3 Thanks There were smiling faces all around as the Brussels Tigers donated money to the Seaforth All Girls Marching Band and to the Brussels Optimists for netting at the diamond. (Mark Nonkes photo) Storm edges Wingham The Brussels Tigers played host to the Zuiich Rangers Friday night in Huron County Fastball League action and came away with an 11-3 win. The Rangers jumped on Tiger starter Doug Conley for two unearned runs in the first and another in the third to lead 3-0. The home side bat came to life in the third with a single run to cut into the Zurich lead. The Tigers then counted four runs in the bottom of the fourth, highlighted Panthers, Tigers meet The Brussels U-6 Panthers and Maple Leaf Tigers met May 2 for local soccer action. The Panthers started out fast with the first goal scored by Nic Gowing just minutes into the game. Ty Sebastian wasn’t far behind with another goal. He then netted his second shortly after. The Panthers had some good goal keeping by Lane Sebastian, Marlene Dale, and Austin Steffler. The Maple Leaf Tigers ran a hard game and had great defensive Hullett Mites win big An overpowering Hullett Twp’ Mite ball team earned a win in the June 2 matchup against Colborne Twp., at home. The big bats were hot with six players belting homeruns. The sluggers were Derek Dolmage. Joel by a Steve Fritz three-run homer to right. The Tigers then added four more runs in the fifth. The big blow in the inning was a Mark Pennington triple to straight away centre. The Tigers completed their scoring with three runs in the sixth. Doug Shaw cashed two runs with a bases-loaded single. Conley went the distance on the mound fanning 10 Rangers. Next action for the Tigers is Friday night as they travel to Seaforth to battle the Reds. players like Cole McLean and Conner Smith. Gowing for the Panthers brought the score up to 4-0. Ryan Sholdice scored the only goal for the M.L. Tigers and had some help from Shea McLean. Kabrina Bishop really ran hard with the ball all game as did Patti Blake and Megan Dolmage for the Panthers. Ty Sebastian got his third goal to finish the game at 5-1 for the Panthers. Salverda, Lee Watkins, Eric Rad­ ford, Kody Reid and Anthony Wilts. Radford, Watkins, Reid and Salverda shared duty on the mound. The final tally was 28-0. The Blyth Atom soccer team opened their season on May 11 when Wingham Kelly Kickers came to town. The Storm came out firing on all cylinders as Darcey Cook put them up early scoring on a penalty kick that eluded the Wingham keeper. Minutes later Cook blasted his second of the game on a nifty pass from Anthony Peters assisted also by Drew Taylor. Wingham narrowed the gap on a penalty kick which narrowly escaped the clutches of Storm keeper Justin Dobie. Wingham continued their strong play tying the score to close out the first half. Minutes into the second half the Storm caught fire once again as Brittany Cook scored assisted by Lindsey Armstrong and Byron Broome. Drew Taylor then put the storm up by two on a great individual effort and quick shot to the Wingham keepers short side. Mosquitoes begin with win Blyth Mosquitoes first scheduled game was against Wingham Bullets in Wingham and they posted a win. The first 15 minutes Wingham had the pressure on with several good shots against Jamie Ross in net. In the second half the goalie Ross moved to full-back, strengthening the defense. Not a single shot was taken on net. Duane Buffinga dented the Wingham defense to score a goal near the end of the game, assisted by Raymond de Boer and Ross. On June 3 the team went away to play against Goderich Tim Horton’s. Blyth only had 1 1 players including one underage player. It was a tough and fast paced game with Goderich scoring in the first half. In the second half Blyth managed to tie the game on a goal from de Boer assisted by Ross. Blyth kept the pressure on Goderich during the second half with lots of scoring chances but failed to capitalize. U-7s win The Brussels U-7 Tigers, in their second straight win defeated Newton with a score of 8-1. It was with a great team effort on offence and tight defensive play that the Tigers were able to carry on their unbeaten streak. Wingham would tally once more to make it close however, the home team escaped with a narrow 4-3 victory. The next game for the Storm was on the road against the Clinton Trail Blazers. Clinton started fast and furious catching the Storm on their heels as they took a 1-0 lead on the first shift of the game. The Storm battled throughout but Clinton persevered scoring a second goal before the half was finished. Dobie did a splendid job but relinquished the duties to Cook for the second half of the game, who displayed a rather unique style of goal keeping and was able to thwart many Clinton chances. The Trailblazers were able to sneak one past however to finish the game with a 3-0 victory. The Storm next hosted the Goderich Kinsmen. The second half would see Dobie take over the keeper duties. Dobie continued the strong play in net taking away a brilliant scoring chance for the Goderich squad. Cook put the Storm up 1-0 early in the second on a splendid pass by Drew Taylor. Shortly after Cook would strike again, taking a nifty pass from Brittney Peters and during a little dipsy doodle at midfield to walk in alone and fire a hard shot over the keeper’s head. This would prove to be the winner despite many great efforts by both squads.
