The Blyth Atom soccer team
opened their season on May 11
when Wingham Kelly Kickers
came to town.
The Storm came out firing on all
cylinders as Darcey Cook put them
up early scoring on a penalty kick
that eluded the Wingham keeper.
Minutes later Cook blasted his
second of the game on a nifty pass
from Anthony Peters assisted also
by Drew Taylor.
Wingham narrowed the gap on a
penalty kick which narrowly
escaped the clutches of Storm
keeper Justin Dobie. Wingham
continued their strong play tying
the score to close out the first half.
Minutes into the second half the
Storm caught fire once again as
Brittany Cook scored assisted by
Lindsey Armstrong and Byron
Broome. Drew Taylor then put the
storm up by two on a great
individual effort and quick shot to
the Wingham keepers short side.
Mosquitoes begin with win
Blyth Mosquitoes first scheduled
game was against Wingham Bullets
in Wingham and they posted a win.
The first 15 minutes Wingham
had the pressure on with several
good shots against Jamie Ross in
net.
In the second half the goalie Ross
moved to full-back, strengthening
the defense. Not a single shot was
taken on net.
Duane Buffinga dented the
Wingham defense to score a goal
near the end of the game, assisted
by Raymond de Boer and Ross.
On June 3 the team went away to
play against Goderich Tim
Horton’s. Blyth only had 1 1
players including one underage
player. It was a tough and fast
paced game with Goderich scoring
in the first half.
In the second half Blyth managed
to tie the game on a goal from
de Boer assisted by Ross. Blyth
kept the pressure on Goderich
during the second half with lots of
scoring chances but failed to
capitalize.
U-7s win
The Brussels U-7 Tigers, in their
second straight win defeated
Newton with a score of 8-1. It was
with a great team effort on offence
and tight defensive play that the
Tigers were able to carry on their
unbeaten streak.
Wingham would tally once more to
make it close however, the home
team escaped with a narrow 4-3
victory.
The next game for the Storm was
on the road against the Clinton
Trail Blazers. Clinton started fast
and furious catching the Storm on
their heels as they took a 1-0 lead
on the first shift of the game. The
Storm battled throughout but
Clinton persevered scoring a
second goal before the half was
finished.
Dobie did a splendid job but
relinquished the duties to Cook for
the second half of the game, who
displayed a rather unique style of
goal keeping and was able to thwart
many Clinton chances.
The Trailblazers were able to
sneak one past however to finish
the game with a 3-0 victory.
The Storm next hosted the
Goderich Kinsmen. Cook would
start as keeper and stopped
McDougall and William Fitzgerald.

everything that came at him as did
his opponent at the other end.
The second half would see Dobie
take over the keeper duties. Dobie
continued the strong play in net
taking away a brilliant scoring
chance for the Goderich squad.
Cook put the Storm up 1-0 early
in the second on a splendid pass by
Drew Taylor. Shortly after Cook
would strike again, taking a nifty
pass from Brittney Peters and
during a little dipsy doodle at
midfield to walk in alone and fire a
hard shot over the keeper’s head.
This would prove to be the winner
despite many great efforts by both
squads.
