Great job on a hot day The St. Ambrose Catholic Church youth group had the perfect job for a hot Saturday as they spent their time washing cars at Teeft’s Food Market to raise funds. Rose Grobbink, left, Lori Pipe, centre, and Jen Grobbink, got to work when this car pulled in. Four local F.E. Madill track ath­ letes had a very successful day at WOSSA when they qualified for the regional OFSAA meet. The Midget Girls team stood out as they captured the division title with the most accumulated points. The 4x100 relay team of Amanda Palmer (East Wawanosh), Sonja Spaling, Tracey Macdonald and Amanda Drennan not only took first with a time of 51.91 seconds but broke the school record. Palmer also earned a sixth in long jump and a twelfth in the 200- metre. Midget Krysten Gerth placed second in shot put and 10th in javelin while the 4x100 relay team of Laura Meier (East Wawanosh), Sheena Baker, Sara Drennan and Rebecca Bruton placed eighth. Sjaan Gerth of East Wawanosh earned the Senior Boys individual title by taking first in the steeplechase, second in the 1,500- metre, and second in the 3,000- metre. In the Junior Boys class, Nathan Garland of Morris Twp. placed fourth in shot put and ninth in dis­ cus. Midget Andrew Garland ( Mor­ ris) earned second in shot put and seventh in discus. Laura Meier captured eighth in the junior long jump, 10th in the 400-metre and 12th in the 200- metre. Mandy Sellers of Morris Twp. placed 13th in the 100-metre and 14th in the 200-metre. Jodi Semple of Grey Twp. was a member of the Junior Girls 4x100 relay team which placed ninth as well as taking 14th in both the dis­ cus and shot put. In the Senior Girls division, Melina Hussey took 12th in the 400-metre and ran the 4x100 relay with Janet Lisle, Paula Kwan and Sellers which placed ninth. Myron Hussey (East Wawanosh) finished 14th in triple jump . Local students were among the 16 who qualified in 29 events to advance to the OFSAA Western Regional competition. The top five in each event com­ peted in the Regionals last week­ end. The first four from the Regionals move on to the OFSAA championship in Etobicoke, June 3- 5. U-9s piety Continued from page 8 but excellent defensive coverage stopped them from scoring. Gowing and King had some great scoring chances and cashed in on several. Gowing got five and King scored two. Prior and Pethick each scored one. Monday evenings you can catch one of the Brussels U-9 teams in action. Bantam Girls post win The Brussels Bantam Girls opened their season with an 11-7 decision over Holmesville. Brussels scored three runs in the first by Nicole Mastnak, Lowe, Douma and Nicole Bernard. Brussels put the game away in the fifth by scoring three more runs by Mastnak, Douma and Katie Clark., Lowe and Pepper shared the mound duties. Members of this year’s team are: Katie Clark, Amber Park, Jen McDonald, Leanna Buck, Lesley Pepper, Chrissy Mason, Jodi Semple, Sara Little, Nicole Bernard, Amy Douma, Shannon White, Nicole Lowe, and Nicole Mastnak with coaches Pete Exel, Doug Shaw and manager Debbie Shaw.
