He and his brothers played in the boxcars at the back of their farm. On Dec. 15, 1988 the last CPR train in the area was to travel from London to Goderich then to Guelph. However, this was a stormy day and the train arrived many hours late in Goderich. The crew decided to stay overnight at the Bedford Hotel. The next morning the train left for Guelph and this ended John’s (22 hour) wait to see it leave. Members learned of many personal fascinating memories and were shown many beautiful slides of scenes in this area. Hardy has also written a book “Rusty Rails” which will be available in September after a book launching day in Hanover. Since 1983 he has been researching information for this book.
