Long-term tips — 0 Cut grass less frequently and to longer lengths. Short cuts encour­ age evaporation 0 Leave grass clippings on the lawn. They retain moisture and fer­ tilize at the same time 0 Use compost, grass and leaves as mulch on garden beds to prevent evaporation 0 Choose trees, plants and grass­ es that need less water 0 Wash your car near the lawn or shrubs to make greater use of the water. The May meeting of Melville Women’s Guild was held in the church parlour on May 18. Kathleen Semple and Elunid McNair were in charge of devotions. Mrs. Semple opened the meeting with a Mother’s Day poem. “For the Beauty of the Earth” was sung, followed by a poem entitled “The Watcher”. Mrs. McNair read scripture from Isaiah 40: 1-8 followed by prayer. The topic was given by Mrs. McNair comparing life to a garden. Mrs. Semple read a poem about smiles. Several verses were read from the booklet entitled “The Glory of the Garden”, followed by the singing of God Who Touches Earth with Beauty. Alice Marks, president opened the business part of the meeting with the poem “One Mother”. Final plans were made for the Maytime Supper which will be held Sunday, May 30. Takeouts will be available.
