The senior choir sang Unto Thee accompanied by Elizabeth Procter. The reading was Acts 7: 55-60 and Psalm 31: 1-5, 15-16 was read responsively. The Epistle reading was from I Peter 2: 2-10 and the gospel lesson from John 14: 1-14. The sermon was based on forgiveness. Melanie Pletch looked after the nursery. Paul Walker and Ken Procter took up the offering. The hydrangea was placed on the carillon in memory of Mrs. Pearl Wheeler by daughter Velma. The Knox board of stewards is holding a Sunday supper of ham and scalloped potatoes on May 16. Tickets are available from any board of steward member. Thelma Pletch and Florence 20 attend UCW meeting The regular meeting of the Evening Unit of the Belgrave United Church met Tuesday evening, May 4 at the home of Donna Shaw with 18 members and two visitors present. The roll call was answered by sharing Mother's Day plans. Barbara Anderson, leader, welcome everyone and thanked Donna for hosting the meeting. She read a poem "Help Someone". Lorna Cook open the worship service of celebration of famous mothers of the Bible. Sheila Nixon read scripture of Creation of Adam and Eve and birds and animals. The UCW general meeting is Thursday, May 20 at 8 p.m. Barbara Anderson read "What is a Grandmother". Grey CPS news McArter greeted worshippers on Sunday, May 9. The Sonshine Singers sang I'm Growing and Pass It on to You accompanied by Joanne Robinson at the piano and directed by Lila Procter. For children's time Rev. Hobden read a story entitled "My Mother" as it was Mother's Day. Tanner Wayne, son of Tim McArthur and Heather Hopper was welcomed into the community of faith through the sacrament of Baptism. Readings were taken from Acts of the Apostles 17: 22-31, Psalm 66: 8-20,1 Peter 3: 13-22, and John 14: 15-21. Karen Hallahan looked after the nursery. The sermon was based on "Before Long". Michelle Nixon and Jenni Hopf took up the offering. On Sunday, May 23 the guest speaker will be Mr. Bruce Whitmore. Mildred Yuill introduced June McBurney and Ann Hatch who presented a health program as planned by the Huron County Health Unit. They gave healthy eating tips, guides for shopping and ways to reduce fat in your diet. They passed out food pamphlets. Mabel’s Moms Mabel's Moms met at their regular time on Wednesday, May 5. Those who attended were Mary Jane Hobden and Stephen; Karen Rundle and Holly; Lila Procter and Jessica; Donna Raynard, Heidi and Curtis; Elaine Scott, Peyton and Preston; Tracy Borhn, Caylib, Emma and Liam; Linda Hess and Judith. Their topic was summer activities. Club plans The regular meeting of the Belgrave Community Club met May 7 at 1:30 p.m. with 23 members and three guests present. President Lome Campbell opened the meeting by welcoming everyone. The secretary’s and treasurer's reports were received. Plans were made for the upcoming bus trip to Jackson's Point to see Oklahoma. Anyone wishing to go is asked to get in touch with Lome Campbell. Shoot parties are May 13 with Ross and Barbara Anderson in charge and May 27 with Gord and Louise Bosman in charge. June 12 is the official opening of the Belgrave Park. Senior games are at St. Marys is June 14 and 15. The next meeting is Friday, June 4 at 1:30 p.m. Mabel Wheeler introduced the guest speaker, Norman Steep of Lucan. He showed a short video encouraging people to be active. He introduced the group to the game "Pepper". WMS meet The Belgrave WMS held its meeting on Monday, May 3 at the home of Mae Johnston. Margaret Siertsema read "Mom's Dream Home", followed by prayer. Lottie Scott read scripture from Matthew 15. A story of women in the 20th century was read by Mrs. Johnston. The secretary's report was given by Mrs. Siertsema and Ivy Cloakey gave the financial reports. The next meeting will be June 7 at 7:30 p.m. with speaker Barbara Hicks. Guests are to be invited. Roll call was a poem on Mother's Day. A story "In Our Frantic Moments” was given by Mrs. Siertsema. Rev. Cathrine Campbell closed with prayer. Families visit Ron and Lynda Nicholson of Barrie spent the weekend with their parents Alice and Garner Nicholson. Rob and Judy Nicholson of Listowel spent Sunday at the same home. Digging in Blyth Scouts were doing their part for the environment, May 4, as they planted trees at a Morris Twp. farm. Cub Terry Radford gets down to earth. Continued from page 11 arts, they are in the process of making book reports on a novel of their choice. For gym, they are in the midst of baseball season, which they are enjoying very much. Up next - track and field. The music career with Mr. C. is on hold right now, but Miss Robinson came to the rescue by assisting with the spring concert - a melodrama entitled "This is a Movie". In the library, Grade 7s have been exploring HyperStudio for the last two weeks. Once they have this mastered, they will have the opportunity to assist the Grade Is. In history, they have been learning about the early French explorers and New France to prepare for the class trip to Quebec City in June. In science, they have been studying the earth's crust focusing on properties of soil. Next, they will be researching natural disasters. In language arts, they are finishing poetry. On Monday, April 26, the Grade 8 class of Grey Central attended the Kiwanis Festival in Stratford. They sang in three parts, soprano, alto, and bass (boys). They snatched first place and came back very proud of their accomplishment.
