Henry and Kathleen had been in Cranbrook the last time in 1993 and wanted to see all the improvements. Peter and Marion drove many times past the silos and the auger pipes in the area. Henry took pictures of these pipes to show his students how elegantly mathe matical these pipes were strength ened by "fingers" and small cables. He even gave us the formula! So now Cranbrook auger pipes are held up to American students as. examples of excellence in construction. Cranbrook neighbours who knew Howard Mitchell were saddened to hear of his passing early last week. Howard had many stories to tell about Cranbrook and Atwood in the horse and buggy age. "Drunk driving was easy as the horse knew its way home." As one drove Howard here and there he always had stories like that. He was 92 years old.
