At the Branch Seaforth branch to install new executive By JoAnn McDonald A fantastic time and turnout for the Legion Auction and one can never say "thanks" too many times. But there has been lots of other activities at the Branch as well. A good attendance was on hand for the April 26 elections meeting. A new executive was elected. Visiting mothers There was a wonderful turnout at Huronlea in Brussels, Friday, when friends and family attended the Mother's Day tea. As well as partaking of tea, coffee and delicious treats, an afternoon of conversation and socializing was enjoyed. A Note from Betty Happy Mother's Day! Flowers to admire, food to savour, gifts to enjoy and memories to recall, all brought on by our offspring. Aren't we lucky? It's the one day that mothers feel okay about being thoroughly pampered. Hope you enjoyed the day as much as I did. I won a neat mat this week. 5Rs is running a sale on their woven mats until this Saturday (40 per cent off), and to promote sales they had a draw and I won. Be sure to go in and check out the colourful mats, made out of the clothing not suitable for sale. The genders appear to have a different view of what spring clean-up means. Men think the garage and vehicles, women think closets and cobwebs. General discussions must be made and the goals repeated many times in order that an old lamp can be trashed or the 1965 motor moved from the prime spot in the garage. Oh, the joys of spring. Just close the closet door, and the garage one as well, and enjoy the weather. Spring also brings graduation reunions. I'm lucky to be part of a tradition that makes life easy. The nurses of St. Joseph's in Guelph meet every year, all graduating classes are included, the first Wednesday of May for memories, laughs, catch-up and of course good food and drink. The class lists are preserved and updated so it's a matter of mailing the place of the event for the year in question. Nearly 200 of us attend and the year of your graduation is recognized. This year, six fine-looking women were with us to celebrate 55 years since graduation. I'm not sure if I look as good as they do even now and they were certainly enjoying the moment. Be sure to check the paper for coming events, music nights, meals and other things to raise the level of joy you have from living in our community. Queen Victoria is expected at the United Church on Saturday and yes, she has a new black dress for the occasion of the church perchers Bye now, Betty G. WZ hosts supper euchre The Majestic Women's Institute hosted a casserole supper and euchre in the library with the proceeds going to the Canadian Cancer Society. All members are invited to attend. Anyone dropping into the Branch on Friday evenings will find hot food available with people enjoying cabbage rolls this past week. Euchre was held last Saturday and there were eight tables in play. The first place winners were Charlie and Ila Johnson. Chasing them for second place was Jim Coultes and Glen Sellers and right behind them was Ross and Kay Duncan for third. Lucky lone hand winner for the men was Tim Dilworth and ladies was Eileen Sellers. The next euchre is May 22. Away attending the provincial convention in Windsor this week is President Rick McDonald and incoming president Linda Bird. They participated in the opening parade by carrying the flags of Branch 218 Brussels. They attended the business meetings as voting delegates and enjoyed the hospitality of the local Windsor branches. lHelp protect the environment | Reduce, reuse and recycle EW • Crispy Caramel Reeses • Smartie Party • Toffee Truffle 143 Josephine St., Wingham (519) 357-2191 Just what you will be looking for this spring Flurr Maitland Valley Insurance Brokers Div. of Shedden Insurance Brokers Ltd. <$) Medic Alert SPEAKS FDR YOU 1-SDD-668-15D7 www.medicalert.ca Hanging Baskets Bedding Plants Shrubs Plant Hangers Opening Saturday, May 15 & Sunday, May 16 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. (519) 887-9668 Murray Siddall & Linda Stevenson of Maitland Valley Insurance, Division of Snedden Insurance Brokers Ltd., wish to congratulate Erin Mitchell for successfully attaining her Registered Insurance Brokers License.
