HUGH ROBERT PEARSON The community was saddened by the passing of Hugh Robert Pearson of Brussels at Huronlea Home for the Aged on Sunday. April 25, 1999. He was in his 82nd year. Born in I917 in Ethel, Mr. Pearson was the son of the late James and Annie Pearson and the beloved husband of the late Donelda Willis. He is survived by his son Robert, brother Ralph Pearson and his wife Edna, sisters Florence and her husband Jim Gibson of London and Mrs. Jessie Joynt of Pinecrest Nursing Home, Lucknow and his dear friend Jean Bewley of Brussels. Mr. Pearson was predeceased by his brothers Roy of Port Colborne and Alex of Ethel and by his sisters Mrs. Edythe Noulty of London, Mrs. Margaret Fyfe of Burlington and infant sister Ina. He was also loved by his many nieces and nephews. Hugh's career was quite varied, first working in various banks, then owner of a produce market on main street Brussels for eggs and poultry. He later purchased a shoe store in Brussels and expanded this business to include both shoes and clothing. In 1958, Hugh started the Brussels Livestock Sales Bam and continued this operation for several years with Jack Bryans as his partner. His farming career was interwoven with all his other activities and his great love in life was his race horses. An athletic enthusiast, he was manager and coach of a winning girls ball team. He was an avid soccer player and chairman of the recreation committee for years. His community spirit was evident when he organized the installation of lights in the park and in the leading role he played in obtaining artificial ice in the arena. There was no funeral home visitation. A private funeral service was conducted at the Schimanski Family Funeral Home, Brussels on Tuesday, April 27 with Rev. Christine Johnson of Brussels United Church officiating. Interment was in Brussels Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice. GERALD JOHN RAIDT Gerald John Raidt of Hullett Twp. died at home on Friday, April 30, 1999. He has 69. Born in Haarlem, The Netherlands on June 30, 1929, he was the son of the late Johannes Raidt and Johanna Koole. He was married to the former Sandra Hiemstra. Mr. Raidt was a retired farmer. He was a member of the Clinton Christian Reformed Church. Along with his wife Sandra, Mr. Raidt is survived by his children Yvonne Raidt, Raymond Raidt and his wife Debbie, Brian Raidt, ‘Wendy Raidt and Rob Raidt. He was the loving grandfather, of Daniel and Stephanie Raidt. Mr. Raidt was the dear brother of Bas Raidt, Jos Pors, Ria Ginnattasio and John Raidt. He was predeceased by three sisters, Jacoba Devente, Els Raidt and Janny Timmerman and by one brother. Jack Raidt. Visitation was held on Sunday, May 2 at the Beatlie-Falconer Funeral Home in Clinton. The funeral service was held on Monday. May 3 from the Clinton Christian Reformed Church at I I a.m. with Rev. Weiger De Jong officiating. Ron Greidanus was the organist. The pallbearers were Raymond Raidt, Brian Raidt, Rob Raidt, Peter Hiemstra, Steve Hiemstra and Peter Raidt. Interment was in Clinton Cemetery. Memorial donations to the Huron-Perth Lung Association or the charity of one's choice would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy. RALPH MACHAN Mr. Ralph Stanley Machan of Listowel passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, at Listowel Memorial Hospital on April 24, 1999. He was 75. Born April 2, I924, in Grey Twp., he was the son of the late Stanley Machan and his late wife, the former Iva Speiran. He married the former Mabel Coulter on June 9, 1945 at the Ethel manse. He is survived by two sons, Garry and his wife Edna Machan of Listowel, and Paul of Kincardine; one daughter, Judy and her husband Bernie Givens of Listowel; nine grandchildren and three great­ grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters, Jean Dunn of Listowel, Lois and her husband Jack O'Mara of London, and Glenna and her husband Bev Weber of Listowel; one sister-in-law, Helen and her husband Jack Clarke of Listowel; one brother-in-law, Adam and his wife Alma Coulter of Forest; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one brother, Willis, in 1944 and two brothers-in-law. Mr. Machan farmed in Grey Twp. before moving to Listowel in 1963. He was employed as an insurance salesman and a bus driver. He was a member of Trinity United Church. Visitation was held April 25 at the Kevin E. Brown Funeral Home, where the funeral was held April 26 at 2 p.m. Rev. Rick Potter and Rev. Lamont opens campaign office Huron-Bruce Liberal Candidate Ross Lamont will officially open his Clinton Campaign office at 7 Albert St., Clinton on Saturday, May 8. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 3 p.m. with a reception to follow. Refreshments will be served. Grade 4 student Derek Dolmage was the hero for the Grade 4/5 melodrama presented at the Hullett Central Public School spring concert on April 29 George Ball officiated. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, Listowel. Pallbearers were Dean Machan. Earl Ash, Shawn Donegan, John Reis, Michael Givens and Jerry McIntosh. Flowerbearers were Rhonda Donegan, Michelle Reis, Cindy Ash and Sara Cole. Memorial donations to Trinity United Church, Listowel, were appreciated. MARGARET YUNGBLUT Margaret F. (Marshall) Yungblut of London and formerly of RR3, Blyth, passed away at St. Joseph's Health Centre, London on Tuesday, April 27, 1999. She was the beloved wife of Donald H. Yungblut, formerly of RRl, Auburn and daughter of the late Frank and Katie (Reid) Marshall of Blyth. She was the dear mother of Lorie Yungblut, Barry Yungblut and his wife Andrea, Brad Yungblut and his wife Jo-Ann all of London and loving grandmother of Blair, Aaron, Erica, Matthew and Kaitlyn. Mrs. Yungblut was predeceased by infant twin sisters Jean and Elizabeth Marshall and one brother Robert Marshall. Friends were received by the family from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m., Thursday at the A. Millard George Funeral Home, 60 Ridout St. S., London where the funeral service was conducted in the chapel on Friday, April 30 at 11 a m. with Rev. Lorenzo Ramirez officiating. Interment was in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, London. EDITH NOREEN LOCKHART Miss Edith Noreen Lockhart of Trillium Court, Kincardine, died March 13, 1999 at Trillium Court. She was 83. Bom in East Wawanosh Twp. on Aug. 9, 1915, she was the daughter of Benjamin Lockhart and Kate Cluff. A graduate of the University of Western Ontario, she was a retired secondary school teacher, having spent her final career days in Stratford. She was an active member of the Business and Professional Women's Association and was a member of the Anglican Church of the Messiah, Kincardine. She is survived by one sister, Mary Shier of Trillium Court, Kincardine. She was predeceased by her parents. There was no visitation or funeral service. Spring interment will be in Blyth Cemetery May 7.
