Brussels Livestock report Limousin steer tops $106 The total receipts at Brussels Livestock tor the week ending April 30 were: 2,647 head of cattle and 473 lambs and goats. Fed steers and heifers sold on a steady market. The cows traded $1 to $2 higher than last week. Veal sold steady with the overweight veal selling sharply lower. Lambs sold on a steady trade. Stockers calves sold at prices $2 to $3 lower. Yearling traded steady. There were 313 steers on offer selling from $93 to $97 to the high of $107. One limousin steer consigned by Larry Ryan. Crediton, weighing 1.250 lbs. sold to Norwich Packers for $106.25 with his overall offering of ten steers averaging 1,397 lbs. selling for an average of $100.70. F arm Grooming The annual 4-H chinchilla show was held in Walton this Bluewater receives honours The Bluewater Recycling Association was among 60 proud recipients of the 1998 Ontario Waste Minimization Awards, bestowed by the Recycling Council of Ontario. In ceremonies held on Earth Day, April 22 in Toronto, the Association was presented with the newly-established Platinum Municipal Award, created to recognize communities generating less than 75 kgs. of waste per capita (an 80 per cent reduction from the provincial average). The Municipal Waste Reduction Achievement Award recognizes municipalities, regional govern­ ments, and groups of municipalities that work co-operatively (i.e. within a county or regional municipality) to divert a significant percentage of municipal waste from landfill through 3 Rs initiative^. Specifically, these awards recognize those municipalities that have reduced their per capita disposal of residential solid waste. Of the 23 municipalities honoured for their waste reduction achievements, the Association was the only one presented with the highest award, for their achievements in reducing waste. This award recognizes the efforts of ovei 60,000 households in member municipalities. Through their efforts, the Association diverted 11,118.39 tonnes of material from the traditional waste stream, an increase of 16.98 per cent from last year. The Bluewater Recycling Association is a non-profit corporation incorporated in 1989 to promote, foster, and apply the concept of environmentally conscious resource management. The Association develops and maintains facilities on behalf of. and in co-operation with the municipal sector. Presently, the Association delivers services to approximately 280,000 people from 79 municipalities in the counties of Huron, Perth, Lambton, Middlesex, Oxford, Bruce, Grey, Chatham- Kent and the Regional Municipality of Haldimand- Norfolk.
