Starting anew Rose deBoer sits at the sewing machine as she works on an order for upholstery work. deBoer took over Brad Montgomery’s business and will soon be running Rose Upholstery from her home on County Rd. 25 near Blyth. Learning first hand and on-the- job is how a new Blyth entrepreneur is getting her start. Rose deBoer took over Brad Montgomery's upholstery business, April 1. New to the industry, she began by working with Montgomery to learn the skills of upholstery as well as working on some of the other jobs booked by his clients. deBoer will continue to refurbish chairs and couches as Montgomery did and will also sew other items such as curtains. Rose Upholstery provides a selection of material from which clients may choose or they can bring in their own fabric, on which there is a cutting fee, says deBoer. The material she purchases is couriered from Scarborough or pur­ chased in London. Asked about her move into the- new business, deBoer says it was something she was interested in and it became available at the right time. deBoer, who has school-aged children, likes the flexibility of working her own hours and being able to be at home when needed. Community holds shower A shower was held at Knox United, Auburn on April 24 at 8 p.m. in honour of Karen Bakker, daughter of Margaret and Marinus Bakker, who is to be married shortly. Nancy Park welcomed all and gave a reading "Take Time”, followed by a piano solo by Charlotte Worsell. Joyce Bean gave a current event contest which was enjoyed. Lisa Carter played a piano solo. Karen Webster then gave a reading "A Recipe for Marriage”. Another contest "Name that Tune" was played and the tunes sung. The bride and her mother were invited to the platform and the bride was presented with a number of lovely and useful gifts. Karen spoke about her life in Auburn and the future. The group wished her all happiness. A beautiful cake was admired and served to all with ice cream. Everyone spent time speaking to the bride-elect before leaving. The room had been beautifully decorated for the occasion and a well-decorated container carried all the prizes given during the evening. The bride will continue to live in Ajax. Everyone wishes her all happiness in her wedded life. Daryl Ball, Fed. of Ag. rep Hullett Twp. council approves road reconstruction project Hullett Twp. council passed a motion at its April 20 meeting that the $130,000 budgeted for road projects be spent in part on street reconstruction in Londesboro. B.M. Ross & Associates has been appointed as the engineering firm for the work. The chief building official was instructed by council to take the "necessary steps" for the clean-up of South Part Lot 22, Cone. 9 in a "timely manner". A written request from Don Dale for a hidden driveway sign at Cone. 7, Lot 18 has been referred to the road superintendent for evaluation under a bylaw. , . A bylaw passed authorizing a contract with George Radford Con­ struction Ltd. for the trading and crushing of gravel. Hans Peter Welker was apponted the township's proxy in the matter of an estate bankruptcy. Reeve Bob Szusz will attend the court of revision meeting for the Dickson Drain on May 5 in Seaforth. Council accepted the mutual agreement of April 15 between Gerrit and Cornelia Haak and Har­ riet Ann Beane for a severance application of Cone. 2, Part Lots 18 and 19. Gordon Potter will cut grass at Londesboro Cemetery for $30 per cut. Don Greidanus will cut grass at the municipal office at a fee of $ 15 per cut, while Mary Memer will be paid $18 per cut at Kinbum Ceme­ tery. Ryan Lee will be paid $24 per cut at each of Ebeneser and Luthem Cemeteries. The 1999 budget, totalling $304,969.59 was approved. There was no objection to a lot­ tery license for the Canadian Red Cross. Mrs. Lloyd Penfound returned home from London on Friday, April 23. She and her husband are the proud grandparents of a baby girl. Their daughter Nancy and husband Douglas Blackwell have a lovely 8 lb. 3 oz. daughter. Their sons Christopher and Jonathon are also delighted with sister Rebecka Louise. The new representative for the Federation of Agriculture of Huron will be well known in the district. Daryl Ball, Auburn will be the man in charge. He grew up here and knows Huron well. He has worked at various jobs but mainly in the agricultural line and lives on the farm. The district is very pleased with this appointment. The Auburn and District Lions Club gave 18 tables and 50 chairs to the Community Centre. The Silver Tops will be guests of the Londesboro Happy Gang on April 28. Potluck dinner begins at 12:30 p.m. The Auburn Lions will be having a pancake breakfast on Saturday, May 8 to sponsor the community lawn sales. On May 10 at 8 p.m. the Auburn Horticultural Society will Im.ve their annual plant sale. Joan Reinhart will be the capable auctioneer. Bring your plants and bulbs for the occasion. A copy of the complete By-law is available for review at the Municipal Office. All dogs must be identified by means of a tag and licence, issued for a one year period, BY APRIL 30, 1999 The fee schedule shall be as follows: 1) All dogs - males, females, spayed females 2) Kennel Licence Fee (for a kennel of dogs that are registered or eligible for registration under the Animal Pedigree Act). 3) Late Payment Charge Shall be assessed in addition to the licence fee, if the licence and or tag is not purchased by April 30th. The By-law requires dog owners to forthwith remove excrement left by a dog, from property other than the premises of the owner of the dog.
