Blyth agrees to join in plan for economic development Three-year-old Robbie Franken of Goderich dug into the delicious food offered at the Blyth Venturers' spaghetti supper, April 19. The troupe held the supper as a fundraiser with the money going towards a year-end wilderness trek. The Venturers are also interested in doing any odd jobs to help raise the money. Leaders Arden and Mike Scott can be contacted at 523-9196 or speak to President Jud Hakkers at 523-4844. „ Kathy’s Korner By Kathy Bromley We’re at that time of the year for warm wet weather. The good side is the fact that we got a nice bit of precipitation, which is definitely needed. In turn, weeds spring up (hence, the name of the season) moving to take advantage of every bit of space available. The gardener curses dandelions (unless they have plans of making wine), chickweed and thistles. With the intentions of getting rid of them, weeds respond to your tugging and digging. They obviously feel you are "pulling" for them, thus encouraging them to grow even more vigorously! For some weeds it takes brutal doses of chemical killer to stop their lively rampage. Unfortunately poison also cripples the soil and destroys other plants and even visiting birds. \ In April life ripens in the fresh waters, insects appear in abundance and fish now prosper on the insects and move upstream to lay eggs. Mother Nature keeps doing the same things, bringing out the new leaves on the trees and the beautiful flowers that we enjoy, even though the circumstances vary from year to year. She never ceases to amaze us. Then again, this should not surprise us coming from a mother.*** On Monday, April 19 Bainton's Art Gallery had five tables in play for the second-last evening of euchre. The high scorers for the evening were Jean Plaetzer and Norm Turnbull, while Dorothy Daer and John Norman were the winners for the low scores. For the most lone hands, Don Buchanan, Ruth Shiell and Jack Blake had to cut the deck to determine the winner, who was Ruth. As you are reading this now, euchre is over again for another season, as Monday, April 26 was the final evening. I would like to give credit to all of those who took the time to get the weekly card games available for the public to enjoy, both euchre and lost heir. We hope to see everyone back again later in the year. Remember, if you cannot shuffle your feet like you used to, it's no big deal. There is a good chance you can still shuffle the cards! Kathy's Quote of the Week: Income tax time is when you test your powers of deduction. By Janice Becker Citizen staff Looking for opportunities to pro mote the village, Blyth councillors approved participation in a new venture by an economic develop ment committee for Huron County. John Grace attended the April 20 session to seek council's involve ment in a joint plan with Bayfield and Goderich. Tourist sites in each community would feature pictorals and dis plays about attractions in the part ner communities, encouraging visitors to travel to the other cen tres. "We would identify the commu nities as destinations of choice and show the connections to the other communities," said Grace. financially and communities involved will also be asked to con tribute. In a motion by Councillors Scrimgeour and Jeff Howson, council agreed to budget $500 to $700 to the promotional package.
