Duff’s plans gaol visit
Judy and Katie Emmrich were
greeters at Duffs United Church on
April 1 1.
Rev. James Murray welcomed
everyone.
The choirs sang a little medley
made up of The Bible Tells Me So
and Since Jesus came into my
Heart.
Rev. Murray called the children
forward and showed them a very
did pocket watch and chain that
belonged to his grandpa. He told
them it was special because it
belonged to a member of his family
and he would be sad if he lost it but
he would still have the memory of
his grandpa in his heart. This was
like the disciples, he said, and
although they didn't have any
physical thing of Jesus to carry
around they had his spirit to be
with them forever.
A remindei that the country
smorgasbord will be held May 24.
A Possibility Day will be held
April 30 for Grades JK - 6.
There is a bus trip to Goderich
planned to visit the Huron County
Museum and Gaol. Deadline for
registration is Friday, April 23. If
interested call Rev. Murray at 887-
6540.
Rev. Murray's sermon was
called, "Living an Easter Faith." "It
is interesting to note that we only
hear about the resurrection
appearances where people came to
believe," he said. No one knows if
Jesus appeared to anyone else, like
Pilate or the Sadducees. Odds are
though, they wouldn't have
believed or understood, even if
Jesus had appeared to them.
The resurrection only happens in
the context of a relationship, he
said, it takes someone who knows
and loves Christ to be able to
recognize and appreciate the
significance of the resurrection.
Without such a loving relationship,
there is no eternal life, no meaning
to this life, and therefore, no
resurrection.
"The resurrection is the fullness
of the eternal relationship we have
with God. It is a new life without
end."
It is also interesting, he said, that
Jesus appeared in ordinary settings,
such as on the road, a meeting
room or the seaside. There were no
flashing lights or big choruses.
"The gift of new life has been
given to every one of us because of
Christ' resurrection. Since we are
individuals, we will all come to
accept this gift at different times,
and in different ways. We don't all
come to have faith at the same
time, nor do we all live out our
faith in the same way."
Thomas was an example of this.
He had to see the evidence before
he believed and it was okay with
the other disciples. They were
patient with him and they tolerated
his uncertainty. It is okay to ask
questions. People all learn in
different ways.
