Blyth Festival honours volunteers at awards night National Volunteer Week begins on April 18 and several area residents got a jump on. the festivities at a recognize all of the Blyth recent event in London. The Blyth Centre for the Arts was well represented as nine volunteers affiliated with the art gallery and theatre received honours at the Ontario Service Awards for volunteers held in the London Convention Centre on March 24. Pins for twenty years of service were awarded to Sheila Richards of Brussels, Bev Katzin-Walker and Ron Walker of Blyth. Margaret Webster of Wingham, Don McCaffery of Exeter, and Carol McDonnell of Blyth received their 15-year pins. Sheron Stadelmann of Blyth and Harry Lear of Londesborough received their 10-year pins and Arlene Darnbrough of Goderich was recognized for five years of volunteer service. Darnbrough could not attend the ceremony as she was performing in Paul Ciufo's new play, On Convoy, at the Livery Theatre in Goderich. Ciufo, has recently been commissioned by the Blyth Festival to write a new script for future consideration. Blyth Festival volunteer co-ordinator, Joan van der Meer said, "We are delighted that "these volunteers have received some well deserved recognition for their years of service. We only wish that each and every volunteer could have been recognized at the awards ceremony." Plans are underway to Festival's volunteers during National Volunteer Week. On Thursday, April 22, the theatre will host an appreciation reception from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Bainton Art Gallery. Volunteers are invited to join the Blyth Festival staff for refresh­ ments, fun and door prizes. All interested volunteers are asked to RSVP to Joan van der Meer at 519-523-4345 by Friday, April 16. Guided tours of the new school and a wind-up giant picnic and barbecue are also planned. True to tradition, music will play a big role during the Farewell Weekend. Rock and roll lovers will be able to do their thing on both the Friday and Saturday night i-n the school auditorium to the tunes of several musical acts whose roots go back to their high school days at OSCVI.
