He was born in East Wawanosh Twp., son of the late George Cowan and the former Edith Augustine and had lived in Stratford for 57 years. He had trained as a cabinetmaker at Ryerson Institute in Toronto and graduated from there. He was a former employee at Gaffney Construction Company and later Logan Contracting. During his working life he made many articles for the Stratford Festival and for his own family. He had served with the Royal Canadian Air Force stationed in Centralia. He was a member of Central United Church, Stratford. Mr. Cowan was the beloved husband of Evelyn Margaret Wightman whom he married Sept. 30, 1938 in Blyth. He was the loving father of Connie Cowper of Stratford and James B. Cowan and wife Nancy of Woodslee. He was the dear brother of Hazel Dalgliesh, Burford and William Cowan and wife Violet, Goderich. He will be sadly missed by grandchildren Roberta Richardson and companion Jim Richardson, Jane Agar and husband Rob, Laura Tannahill and husband Norm, Terri Schnekenburger and husband Joe and Ben Cowan. Also surviving are his great­ grandchildren Ben Richardson and friend Melissa, Sheldon Simpson, Daniel and Ryan Agar, Kaitlin, Samantha and Conner Tannahill, Jake, Daniel and Kaydee Schnekenburger, and one great­ great-granddaughter, Christina, a sister-in-law Doris Cowan, Chatham, several nieces and nephews and their families. Sealed, clearly marked tenders are now being received for the following: 1) Supplying, crushing, hauling, and spreading of 12,000 metric tonnes more or less of 5/8" Granular "A" gravel for the roads in the south-west corner of the Township of Grey. 2) Loading, hauling and spreading of 19,000 metric tonnes more or less of 5/8" Granular "A" gravel for the balance of the roads in the south half of the Township of Grey. Work to be completed by June 18th, 1999 to the satisfaction of the Township Road Superintendent. Contractor must be capable of 2,000 tonnes per day. The contractor to be responsible for any rules or regulations which may be applicable under the Aggregate Resources Act. Apply to the undersigned for contract forms. Dave Hastings, CRS 1 Road Superintendent Township of Grey Besides his parents he was predeceased by a daughter Judith Richardson, a son-in-law Floyd Cowper, two brothers Kenneth and George Cowan and by two sisters Grace Evans and Ethel in infancy. Friends and relatives called at the W. G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron St., Stratford Thursday, March 25, from 7 - 9 p.m. The funeral service was held at the funeral home on Friday, March 26 at l p.m. Rev. Cheryl-Ann Stadelbauer-Sampa officiated. Spring interment will be in the Blyth Union Cemetery, Blyth. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the CNIB or to the Mitchell Nursing Home through the funeral home. ROSS McCLURE Robert "Ross" McClure of McKillop Twp. passed away at Seaforth Community Hospital, on Saturday, March 27, 1999. He was in his 68th year. Mr. McClure was the beloved brother of Lillian Bernard of Clinton. He was the special friend of Dorothy Butt of Egmondville, and her family and dear brother-in- law of Fem Dale of Clinton, and her family. He was the dear uncle of Lois Smith, Goderich; Les and Harvey Bernard, Walton; Marie Johnston, Dave Bernard, Doug and Neil Dale, all of Clinton; Elaine Landsborough, Stratford; and Marlene Walden, Kitchener. Mr. McClure is also survived by several great and great-great-nieces and nephews. Ross was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Verna (Knox) McClure, his sister, Ruth Dale, and brothers-in-law, George Bernard and Elgin Dale. Family received friends at the Whitney-Ribey Funeral Home, Seaforth, on Sunday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. The funeral service was held at the funeral home on Monday, March 29, at 2 p.m. Rev. Jane Kuepfer officiated. Pallbearers were Ken Glanville, Dean Glanville, Kelly Dalton, Clyde McClure, Ken McClure and Murray McClure. Flowerbearers were Donald Landsborough and Scott Dale. Interment will be in Maitland- bank Cemetery. Memorial donations to Cavan United Church, Winthrop, would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy. JANET DALTON Janet (Smith) Dalton, formerly of McKillop Twp. passed away at her residence, Seaforth Manor Nursing Home, on Wednesday, March 24, 1999. She was in her 91 st year. Mrs. Dalton was the beloved mother and mother-in-law of Robert A. and Dorothy of Londesboro, Murray and friend Janet of Restoule, Douglas of Goderich and Doris and Dave Muir and Mavis Dalton, all of Seaforth. She will be fondly remembered by 20 grand­ children, 26 great-grand-children and eight great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters-in- law, Mary Smith of Seaforth and Janet Smith of Strathroy. Mrs. Dalton was predeceased by her husband, Carl (Kelly) Dalton, son Percy, her parents, Percy and Margaret (Kerr) Smith, sister, Mary Griffin, and brothers, Lapslie, Alex and Archie. Mrs. Dalton was a member of Northside United Church, Seaforth. Family received friends at the Whitney-Ribey Funeral Home, Seaforth, on Friday from 6:30 to 9 p.m. where the funeral service was held on Saturday, March 27 at 3 p.m. Rev. Jane Kuepfer officiated. Pallbearers were Roy Dalton, Ken Dalton, Kelly Dalton, Dennis Dalton, Ronald Dalton and Ron Bissonnette. Flowerbearers were Faye Devereaux, Beverley Lamb, Donna Dalton and Blanche Coady. Interment will be at Maitland- bank Cemetery, Seaforth. Memorial donations to Multiple Sclerosis and Myasthenia Gravis would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
