The next shoot is Friday, April 9 at 1:30 p.m. Van Camps greet at Knox Skating success Blyth skaters continue to achieve new levels in their skills testing. Brett Bean earned Level Three-Gold in power skating which is the highest level of achievement in the program. Bean is the fifth skater to reach this mark in the club's history. Laura Meier, centre, completed the highest skills Level-One at the Lucan test day, March 22. She is only the second Blyth club skater to do so. Michelle Cook successfully completed all of her senior silver dances which consists of 17 dance tests. Blyth skaters end great season It has been a very successful season for the Blyth Skating Club skaters. The following Canskate participants successfully completed their various stages of the program. Stage 1, Morgan Bos, Sadie Chalmers, Rebecca Chalmers; Stage 2, Jeff Plaetzer, Jamie Plaetzer, Shawn Moore, Alanna Roy, Blake Moore, Alanna Uyl, Kelly MacDonald, Jasmine deBoer, Mathew Steele, Jordan Rinn, Andrew Hess, Hannah Moore; Stage 3, Cassie Salverda, Liz Ferrier, Anya Scott, Anya Steffler, Shawna Popp, Vicki Cook, Courtney Bos. On March 16 at the Club's test day Cassandra Uyl, April Austin, Shelby Moore, Hailey Hulzebos and Sylvia VanDriel passed their first Preliminary Dance (The Dutch Waltz). Passing the Canasta Tango were Corine Falconer, Michelle Hoftzyer and Angela Nonkes. Completing their Preliminary Dances by passing the Baby Blues were Jenna Rinn and Katie McClinchey. Finishing their Junior Bronze Dances by passing the Willow Waltz were Heather Elliott, Mandy Mason and Meagan Campbell. Achieving the Level 7 skill was Jessica Wheeler and their Level 6 skill were Meagan Campbell, Heather Elliott, Kerissa Van Amersfoort and Anjela McCool. Passing their Preliminary Freeskate Test were Amanda Bearss, Nicole Meier, Heather Elliott, Kerissa Van Amersfoort and Meagan Campbell. At a test day held in Lucknow on March 21 Laura Meier passed her Senior Bronze Freeskate. At Lucan on March 22 Meier passed her Level 1 Gold Skills. At the Prehistoric Parade Carnival held on March 6, the most improved skater trophies and plaques were presented by the various business sponsors. The most improved Junior skater award was presented to Laura Youngblut, sponsored by Howson & Howson. The most improved Intermediate skater award was presented to April Austin, sponsored by George Radford Construction. The most improved Senior skater award was presented to Meagan Campbell and Heather Elliott, sponsored by Sparling's Propane. The most improved Power skater award was presented to Aaron Dykstra, sponsored by G. L. Hubbard Ltd. The draw for the John Newby print of "Ice Baby" was held and Susan Howson of Blyth was the lucky recipient. Some upcoming events for the skating club are the annual meeting which will be held on April 14 at 7:30 p.m. in the arena auditorium, where carnival pictures and videotapes can be picked up. All members and parents are welcome. Verlaine and Glen Van Camp greeted worshippers to Knox United Church on Sunday, March 28. fiRev. Mary Jane Hobden welcomed everyone. The scripture lesson taken from Matthew 21: 1-11 was read by Scott Folkard. Hosanna, Loud Hosanna was sung with the children handing out palm branches to the congregation. The children gathered in the front pew for story time. The theme focused on the crowds in Jerusalem as they welcomed Jesus waving their palm branches. "Jesus wants us to welcome him not just with palm branches and songs and hurrahs, but also with love in our hearts, for God and for one another," said Rev. Hobden. A plant symbolizing a palm tree was placed on the centre table. The senior choir sang Hosanah accompanied by Elizabeth Procter. Psalm 118: 1-2, 19-29 was read responsively with Lisa Black as leader. Adam McBumey and Justin Campbell took up the offering. Amy Barnes looked after the nursery. The Gospel lesson taken from Matthew 26: 1-6, 14-29 was read by Paul Walker. A drama entitled "Earthly Triumph" was presented by the disciples.
