Rev. Mary Jane Hobden opened the meeting with a responsive "Litany of an Annual Meeting". As elected chair for the meeting Rev. Hobden proceeded to call upon Lome Campbell to present the treasurer’s report. The Pastoral There were eight tables of euchre in play on Wednesday, Feb. 3 at the Belgrave WI hall. Winners were: high lady, Jean Pattison; second high lady, Mary Robinson; lone hands, Louise Bosman; low lady, Laura Johnston; high man, Alf Nichol; second high man, Mervin Schneider; lone hands, Dennis Leddy; low man, Harvey Black. Eleven tables of shoot were in play in the Belgrave Community Centre. Winners were: high lady, Kay McCormick; second high lady, Marj Coultes; most shoots, George Inglis; low lady, Olive Bolt; high man, Dennis Leddy; second high man, Gordon Bosman; most shoots, Lloyd Appleby; low man, Ross Anderson. The next shoot will be Feb. 12 at 1 p.m. The seniors bowling scores for Wednesday, Feb. 3 were: Reta, 85, 85; Evelyn, 136, 131; Jean Walker, 87, 112; Elizabeth, 147, 98; Helen Underwood, 147, 117; Doris Walden, 135, 117; Eleanor Neill, 163, 86; Raymond Neill, 133, 120; Lome Campbell, 167, 194; Ann Hawkins, 154, 186; George Michie, 96, 176; Louise Bosman, 146, 113; Marg, 101, 58; Evelyn Galbraith, 114, 129; Doris Remington, 166, 17CW meets The Evening Unit to Knox United Church, Belgrave met Tuesday evening, Feb. 2 with 14 members present. Donna Shaw, Muriel Coultes and Lillian Campbell conducted the worship service dealing with time and talents. Scripture was taken from Luke 9. Roll call was answered by naming a hymn using the word "Love" in its lyrics. The annual meeting of the UCW is being held at Sault Ste. Marie April 25 - 27. The World Day of Prayer is to be held Friday, March 5 at the Presbyterian Church. Laura Johnston presented the program. She showed a video, "Brown Women, Blonde Babies". Many young women from Third World countries are brought to Canada as live-in nannies or domestic workers in large Canadian cities. They live a very restricted life, often sharing a room with the children. They work for two years to acquire landed immigrant status. Belgrave Guides host guests The 1st Belgrave Girl Guides had special guests for their last two week's meetings. On Jan. 28 the guides hosted a skating party in the Belgrave arena with Blyth Guides, Belgrave Pathfinders and Belgrave Brownies attending. They had a great social evening with treats to follow. On Feb. 4 the Belgrave Girl Continued on page 31 charge Budget was reviewed and accepted for 1999. The mission and service objective was set. Murray Scott, acting as the nominating committee reported the new officers: to the session, Mary Hunter, Florence McArter, John Anderson, Mabel Wheeler and George Procter; to the Stewards, Ken Procter, Mary Cook and John Dorsch; trustees, George Procter, Bill Coultes; ministry and personnel committee, Joyce Vincent; nominating committee, Murray Scott. All other committees will remain the same. Mike Cottrill,* as a book examiner, thanked Lome Campbell for his diligence and hard work over the previous year. Rev. Hobden offered her thanks to the officers, as well as the congregation for their hard work and support. John McIntosh thanked Rev. Hobden for her leadership and spiritual guidance. The next annual meeting is on Jan. 20, 2000. John and Lois Anderson greeted worshippers and handed out the Service of Worship at Knox United Church or Sunday, Feb. 7. Melissa Whitmore of Seaforth, Police officer The Belgrave Community Club met Friday, Feb. 5 in the club room with 21 present. O Canada was sung accompanied by Freda Johnston. Jim Dore, a police officer was the guest speaker. He talked about "scams" which have surfaced in the area recently. Seniors should be especially aware of schemes and guard against being tempted. Partners Against Crime is a project between the Ontario government and the Ontario Provincial Police to prevent .these crimes. Keith Elston spoke to the group regarding a School Fair building the guest speaker, welcomed everyone. The children gathered in the front pew. Melissa asked them what special day was next week. The children said "Valentine's Day". Valentine's Day, she said, is a day of caring, loving and giving as well as sharing valentine cards with classmates, sisters, brothers, mothers and fathers. "It is also important to love ourselves", she said. She had a large heart cut out with the letters IALAC printed on it meaning I am lovable and capable. She stressed that when you love yourself you will be able to love others that much more. The senior choir sang accompanied by Elizabeth Procter. The Bible reading was Corinthians 13: l-13 based on love. Melissa read a contemporary reading, "The Magic of Love" by Helen Steiner Rice. The Psalm "Joyful Adoration" was read responsively. The sermon was based on "love" and centered around the children's story. Joanne Robinson and Joyce Vincent took up the offering. speaks to club project the Kinsmen have planned. They propose to erect an open shelter for cattle, pigs and poultry. They are requesting help from the senior group. The Avon Maitland School board will no longer be supporting the fair. It was agreed to send a letter of support to the Kinsmen. Year 2000 is the 80th year of the fair. Special events are planned. President Lome Campbell announced that July 1 would be set aside to celebrate the year 2000, The club felt an alternative date might be less congested. The matter was left with the program committee. Return trip An East Wawanosh player does a nice job returning a tricky volley during a game against Grey, last Wednesday morning. Six elementary schools competed, Brussels, Grey, East Wawanosh, Turnberry, Howick and Wingham.
