It was a great day for the students of Blyth Public School as their principal, Dave Shaw, left,
accepted a $1,000 cheque from the Blyth Lions Club which will be used to pay for the
second year leasing costs on school computers. The club may also look into covering the
third year's costs as well, said member Charlie Shaw, right. Lion Bev Blair presented
Principal Shaw with the donation.

Scout fundraiser a success
The first Group Committee
meeting of 1999 was held Feb. 1 at
the Blyth Public School.
It was reported that popcorn sales
went very well prior to Christmas.
The Group Committee expressed
their appreciation to the community
for the support. All money raised
will be used for local Scouting
projects and events.
One member of 1st Blyth
Venturers has returned from the
World Jamboree in Chile. Robert
Goodall, along with another Huron
District youth, participated for two
weeks as part of the Canadian
contingent. The next World
Jamboree for Scouting will be in
four years.
All Sections have taken
advantage of the winter conditions
to date, and are hopeful that there
will be more snow throughout
February for some upcoming
events.
New Beaver Leaders Ian
Caldwell and Tom Bailey were
invested as full leaders Feb. 2.
Everyone is looking forward to
the annual Huron District 'Beaver
Brrr', to be held Feb. 27 at St.
Boniface School in Zurich. It will
be a day of crafts, games and
outdoor fun for all Huron District
Beavers, their Leaders, and parents.
Each Cub is working hard to
make his Kub Kar into the perfect
racing machine for the 1st Blyth
Kub Kar Rally in February, and the
District race March 13. Winners of
that event will have the opportunity
to participate in the Regional Kub
Kar Rally.
The Cubs appreciated the help
provided by Mike Moore in
constructing their Kub Kars.
During January the Scouts held a
First Aid Training and sleepover at
the Trinity Anglican Church, and
joined 4th Goderich Troop Jan. 28
for a very interesting and
informative meeting. A member of
the OPP Canine Unit brought his
dog 'King', who is trained in search
and rescue, tracking, criminal
apprehension, and drug search.
Everyone came away with a greater
appreciation of the intelligence and
skill of a well-trained, police dog.
In preparation for the Huron
District Winter Camp for Scouts
and Venturers Feb. 5 - 7 the boys
made sleds. They are also planning
Multiple Sclerosis

of the founding members, Lord and
Lady Baden-Powell. A window
display of Scouting and Guiding
memorabilia will be set up in the
window of'Old Village Accents'.
The annual potluck banquet will
be held Feb. 24 at the Blyth
Community Centre, and members
of the organization will attend the
