Blyth Public School student Kirk Stewart presented a
plaque to Eldon Montgomery of the Friends of the
Environment foundation, Jan. 19, to say thank you, on
behalf of the student body, for the donation of $500.
Gathered through contributions by Canada Trust

With East Wawanosh councillors
meeting with those from Morris
and Turnberry Twps. to discuss
restructuring, Blyth councillors
expressed concern about being left
out of both the north and the south
groupings.
Clerk-Treasurer John Stewart
told council, at the Jan. 19 meet
ing, that the townships had held a
meeting with another scheduled for
Feb. 11. Wingham council was
invited to the next meeting, howev
er, there was no mention of Blyth.
Councillors discussed Wingham’s
preference for a larger group, East
Wawanosh's possible withdrawal
from the Morri s/Tumberry group
and Turnberry's insistence that
Blyth not be included in a group of
four.
Councillor Murray Nesbitt sug
gested council find out soon about
what was happening to the north
before the municipality was closed
out of the south group.
The municipalities of Clinton,
Hullctt Twp. and Goderich Twp.
arc looking for a fourth member,
but are currently speaking with
Colbornc Twp., according to Ncs-
bili.
Councillors continued to debate
the economic benefits of going to
the north or south as Councillor
Jeff Howson said "right now Clin
ton has nothing" and Councillor
Rob Lawrie rebutted with the ques
tion,"Then why do they have the
higher assessment?"
Reeve Mason Bailey tried to
stem the conversation by saying a
decision had been made at this time
with the backing of the public. "No
decision would be made with a par
tial council." (Councillor Doug
Scrimgeour wa absent.)
Bailey said he did not think there
was a big rush as there are a lot of
challenges left ahead. "There are
tug-of-wars from one end of the
county to the other. I am not con
cerned about being left out. some
one will put us where we belong
before it is over."
However, Lawrie was concerned
about being "pul where we belong".
Al the suggestion of Howson, a
motion was passed authorizing
Stewart to send a letter to the Twp.
