Huron Chapel welcomes new pastor and family Welcome Dave Wood, his wife Julie, and their three children have moved to Blyth. Wood is the new pastor of Huron Chapel Evangelical Missionary Church in Auburn. By Bonnie Gropp Citizen staff Ebullient might be a good way to describe Dave Wood. Other words which come to mind upon meeting the new pastor of Huron Chapel Evangelical Mis sionary Church in Aubum arc gra cious and gregarious. His wife, Julie, proudly notes that Wood's "bubbly personality" has often been mentioned favourably by parish ioners. "One woman said he was so out going, very human, but still when it came to preaching the word of God obviously took his work seriously." "One of the nicest compliments paid to me was by a man who said he appreciated my 'realness', that I am one of the people," Wood added. These attributes probably con tributed to the fact that his previous congregation's membership in Eau Clire in northern Ontario, almost doubled what it was when he began there, over eight years ago. Bom and raised in Walkerton, as was Julie, Dave attended Emmanuel Bible College in Kitch ener. Six months after gradution he was called north. The small remote community located in the Mattawa area, was a good beginning for the new pastor, but earlier last year, Wood "sensed the time had come to move on." "I was hesitant at first, change is hard. Our youngest child, who is nine, had lived there most of his life. The decision was one of the hardest we have ever made." With his family's support, Wood requested his name be put on the list for calls. When the one came from Auburn, he admits he was quite pleased. "The congregation didn't know, but I had made up my mind that that was where I wanted to be. I came to preach in August for them, then in October they called and I said, 'Yes'." The Wood family, which includes children, Amanda, 15, Rose, 12 and Zachary, decided on a home in Blyth and moved Dec. 29. And Wood says, "in most ways it was like coming home." Julie agrees."It's very nice for the children that relatives can come to visit more frequently now. Grand ma's been here several times already and it used to be they only saw her once a year or so." Though winter storms have slowed his initiation into the Aubum parish, ("I've had to cancel a service and two Bible Study groups," he says.) Wood is looking forward to his role as "servant lead er". you are ‘Welcome at the BLYTH COMMUNITY CHURCH OF GOD 9:45 a.m. - Sunday School for Children and Adults 11:00 a.m. - Morning Worship Bible Studies - Wednesday 10 a.m. & 7:30 p.m. Phone 523-4590 McConnell St., Blyth THE ANGLICAN CHURCH OF CANADA you are welcome this Sunday JANUARY 24 - EPIPHANY 4 HOLY EUCHARIST Trinity, Blyth St. John's, 9:30 a.m. Brussels Wheelchair accessible 11:15 a.m. Rev. This year, the Huron Chapter is hoping to exceed their revenue goal of $65,000. The campaign is a very important part of the fundraising component for the Foundation, as all money raised from the campaign goes toward heart and stroke research. Significant results in research have been made because of generous donations by members of this community, like yourself. A recent discovery in gender specific research stating the differences between men and women with regards to heart disease has aided in saving lives. The campaign has coverage in all towns and townships within the county. Anyone interested in joining the campaign against Canada's #1 killer, as a canvasser or captain, contact the Heart and Stroke office at 1-888-287-7775. Canvassers will be collecting donations during the month of February. Official tax receipts are given at the time the donation is made.
