Scotts welcome
at Knox Church
Wilma and Murray Scott
welcomed worshippers and handed
out the communion service of
worship at Knox United Church on
Sunday, Jan. 10.
The senior choir sang Where No
One Stands Alone.
The Old Testament reading was
taken from Isaiah 42: l-9.
Psalm 29 was read responsively,
followed by the singing of Teach
Me God to Wonder.
Children's time was based on
Epiphany. The theme was "Paths of
the Spirit" - Jesus' baptism. Rev.
Mary Jane Hobden gave each child
a seal. Each one is loved by God
and his spirit is for each one, she
said.
The Old Testament reading was
taken from Isaiah 60: 1-6 and
Matthew 2: 1-12 with the gospel
lesson from Matthew 3: 13 - 17.
The sermon centered on "What Is
God’s call Like?"
Members of the session served
communion.
On Sunday, Jan. 24 the youth,
ages 10 and up of the charge are
invited for board games and banana
splits in the Knox basement from 7
- 9 p.m. Bring favourite board
games and Rev. Hobden will
provide the food.
The UCW General meeting will
be held on Thursday, Jan. 28. in the
Knox Sunday School room at 6:30
p.m. with a potluck supper and a
4 tables in play
at euchre party
There were four tables of euchre
in play on Wednesday, Jan. 13 in
the Women's Institute Hall.
Winners were: high lady, Louise
Bosman; high man, Gord Bosman.
Euchre will be played again on
Wednesday, Jan. 20 at 8 p.m.

to keep library open
In a recorded vole, West
Wawanosh councillors voted at the
Jan. 5 meeting, to keep Auburn
library open.
The only desenting vote came
from Reeve Doug Miller.
Council will seek quotes for the
replacement of existing street
lights, service to Proudfoot Avenue
and continuous maintenance of
lighting for the Hamlet of Dungan
non. A public meeting will be
called in the future to discuss the
upgrading proposal.
Council supported Rene Arse
nault's application for consent to
sever land, subject to a design plan
slide presentation by Ross and
Barbara Anderson and Les and
Donna Shaw on their trip to
Iceland.
The Knox Annual meeting with
lunch to follow will be held on
Sunday, Jan. 31 following morning
worship service.
On Jan. 17 the Second Sunday
after Epiphany Wilma and Ross
Higgins welcomed worshippers.
The Christ Candle was lit.

responsively. The gospel lesson
was read from John 1: 29-42.
Children's time centred around
"Light" with many songs about
lights. Rev. Hobden showed a little
light that was only big enough for
one but it could be shared with
others. Each person is a light, she
said. "We share and know that God
loves us."
Cindy McKee and Kendra
Moffatt were in charge of nursery.
The sermon was based on
"Getting Spiritual Power
Renewed".
"Our lives are changed when we
look to Jesus and see the light,"
said Rev. Hobden.

M. Wheeler hosts UCW
The January meeting of the
Belgrave Evening Unit to Knox
United Church was held Tuesday,
Jan. 5 at the home of Mabel
Wheeler with 12 answering the roll
call.
Barbara Anderson, leader,
welcomed everyone and thanked
Mabel for offering her home. She
read a poem "Thoughts of the New
Year".
Thelma Pletch and Irene Lamont
had the worship service. The theme
was God of all seasons.
Community Club donates
The January meeting of the
Belgrave Community Club was
held Jan. 8 at 1:30 p.m. in the board
room with 15 present.
President Lome Campbell
welcomed everyone. A donation of
$100 is to be given to the Wingham
and Area Day Care Centre and to
Wheels Away.
The club has been asked to host
the Huronlea birthday party, May
11 at 2 p.m. Bob Grasby suggested
Palliative Care, the Day Care
Centre and Chief Jim Dore be
approached to speak at future club
meetings.

Bosman will look after any
upcoming bus trips.
Barbara Anderson reminded the
