SportT Helpful teammate When Brussels Pre-Tyke Danny Donkers went down, teammate Nick Gowing swung around back to pick up the puck in their Saturday morning game against Blyth. Blyth, Brussels face off A strong, fast-skating Blyth team was loo much for the Brussels Pre Tykes when they met Saturday morning in Brussels. Blyth quickly tallied two as Grant Sparling slid the puck over the line twice in the opening min utes. Brussels had trouble finding their legs in the first and were down 5-0 at the end of the period. However, play improved in the second as Brussels began to gain control more often and used pass ing to gel the puck out of their zone. Good clearing shots were made by Ty Sebastian and Christopher Becker to ease the pressure on the net. Mid-way through the second period, Morgan Deitner caught a nice pass from Gavin Bowers at centre ice and look it all the way down for Brussels’ lone goal. Bowers had had a good shot on net earlier but was taken down by a defender. Nick Gowing stole the puck from an attacker preventing a shot on net. Nice saves were made between the posts by Deitner, Conner Smith, Danny Donkers and Gowing. Slow ice helped Shea McLean in net. Blyth score two more in the sec ond for the 7-1 win. Putting the puck across the line for Blyth were Adam Cronin (two), Tyler Stephenson (two) and Scott Sippcl. Blyth Novices win The Blyth Novice B Local League Bulldogs skated to victory in Seaforth Jan. 9. The 'Dogs came on strong scor ing four in the first period before Seaforth got on the board. Kendall Whitfield, Curtis Robertson and Anthony Peters with two, bulged the twine for Blyth. Assists went to Brittany Peters, Whitfield and Robertson. Seaforth's Kyle O'Rourke scored one before the first period buzzer. The hosts narrowed the lead in the second when Jason Wilson notched one at the 8:24 mark. It was cancelled three minutes later by Whitfield, who scored unassist ed. Scott Somerville answered with Seaforth's third goal just 30 sec onds later. Then with less than a second remaining in the period, Whitfield netted her hattrick to give her team a three-point lead. Somerville managed to sneak one by the Blyth netminder in the third, but neither team could find another opportunity to score, ending the game 6-4 in Blyth's favour. BOOK Taking a rest In an entertaining contest against the Brussels Pre-Tykes Jan. 9, this Blyth player took a few seconds to catch his breath as he saw the puck go sliding by. Milverton edges Brussels in dying minutes of game A neck-and-neck race ended in defeat, when Brussels Atom Reps were edged by Mitchell in the dying minutes of an at-home game, Jan. 8. The fast-paced, hard-hitting con test had plenty of end-to-end action resulting in a 3-3 tie with just over three minutes left in play. When Mitchell scored to pull ahead, Brus C itizen .. sels pulled the goalie only to have the visitors launch one into the empty net. Coaches were pleased with the excellent effort put into the game by all players. Scoring were Tate Stephenson, Adam McClure and Darcey Cook.
