Thieves hit Londesboro shop Burglars spoiled Christmas for the Townsend family when they broke into Townsend Tire on County Rd. 15 east of Londesboro. On opening the business al 7:15 on Monday, Dec. 21 staff discov­ ered the business had been broken into through a boarded up window sometime between closing on Sat­ urday, Dec. 19 and Monday morn­ ing. Once inside the thieves took 40 tires valued at $4,400. Meditation was based on the journey of life in 1999. As Christians follow Jesus out into the world, God is searching for them; they just have to open their eyes and see. On Dec. 23 the owner of a pick­ up truck which had broken down on County Rd. 12, south of County Rd. 86 reported the vehicle had been damaged. The 1988 Ford Ranger, grey in colour, had broken down the previ­ ous day and had been left overnight. When a tow truck was sent to pick up the vehicle it was found the passenger window had been broken. The vehicle was checked and nothing had been stolen. Anyone with information about the damage is asked to notify Huron OPP. As of Jan. 1, 1999 I've written this news for 10 years. The annual Christmas Eve service was held at Londesboro Church on Dec. 24 at 7:30 p.m. The junior choir sang. The last Advent Candle was lit by Murray and Cheryl Wheeler and girls. Rev. Paul Ross gave a very good monologue "A Shepherd Speaks". A large number of people enjoyed this very good service. Greeter at Londesboro United Church on Sunday, Dec. 27 was Jim Jamieson. Ushers were Charlotte and Crystal Wilts. There was no service at Londesboro United Church on Sunday, Jan. 3, 1999 due to the weather conditions. He received phone calls from his niece and her husband Bob and Shirley Smart of Arizona, cousins Merle and Marie Stonehouse of Truro, NS, cousin Margaret Doan of Listowel as well as many friends and neighbours in the area. Joanne and Richard Cortes, Amanda and Nicholas of Tavistock called in for a visit as well as neighbours, friends and relatives. The community also extends special birthday greetings to Lewis. Happy Birthday Lewis. On New Year's Day Lewis celebrated his birthday as a supper guest at the home of Bill and Muriel Coultes. Other guests were Lewis's wife Helen and friends Laura Johnston and Ruth Johnston, and Muriel's sister and her husband, Don and Elizabeth Stobo of Teeswater. Rob and Doreen Roy, Christina and Emily of Peterborough, Rick and Nancy Ball, Matthew and Alicia of Hanover, Doug and Sheila Cousins, Brandon and Jordyn of Guelph and Richard and Anne Catherine Anderson, Daniel and Sarah of Goderich visited over the Christmas holidays with their parents Barbara and Ross Anderson. The families of Donna and Les Shaw, Lloyd and Eleanor Anderson of London and Ross and Barbara Anderson gathered for the Christmas celebration of Richard and Anne Catherine Anderson at Goderich on Sunday, Dec. 27. Ashley Irwin of Ashfield Twp. spent a few days over the Christmas holidays with her grandmother, Betty Irwin. Following a report from the Huron County Health Unit, Merv Baker, owner of Lot 3, Cone. 1, was advised that a new septic sys­ tem would be required or the addi­ tion to the residence moved. The bylaw for the zoning amend­ ment was passed, subject to a new septic system and a building per­ mit. Huron County council will be contacted regarding fire education at Huronlea as the Brussels Fire Department were unaware that as of Jan. 1, 1998, that they would not be paid for the service. Council is requesting partial payment. One business tax claim will be sent to small claims court while another will be written off. In an effort to be fair and mini­ mize criticism, council suggested the secretary-treasurer position on the BMG Community Centre board be advertized. Council approved the billing schedule for the Nichol Drain Branch B. The drain maintenance grant for 1998 was approved. Drain quotes were accepted from Armtec for signs, flags, etc and Laserline of inker tape rod and Tril­ lium Municipal for barricade tape. Twenty township flags will be purchased from Banner Connection at a cost of $31.09. Bill Souch resigned from the position of fenceviewer. A meeting has been set for Jan. 12 to discuss the Bly th Creek Drain with Andy McBride. Further information will be sought regarding the computer sys­ tem and grants to allow Y2K com­ pliance. The payment of general accounts, in the amount of $73,567.96, was approved. Swingers end season 64 play euchre Helen Dobson hosted 16 tables of euchre at the Ethel Hall.
