Council gets sewer quotes Blyth council was laced with an urgent matter at the Dec. 22 session as an old sewer caused problems for four homeowners. Having heard al a previous meet ing that the sewer line to the west of C. Bainton, H. Grubb, L. Rad ford and M. Radford was failing and a new line had not been con structed in the early 1980s when other sections of the village had been done, council received three quotes on a new line installation through Henry Rouw of the Ontario Clean Water Agency. Rouw said the lowest bid was from C. Nesbitt Construction al a cost of $6,000. Clerk-Treasurer John Stewart advised council that the situation was urgent and any decision need- • cd to be acted upon quickly. A motion was passed approving the quote from Nesbitt Construc tion with authorization to complete the work as soon as possible.*** Two quotes were received for the firewood for sale by the village. It was awarded to Bruce Brown for $84.50. The steel was sold to Murray Siertsema for $152 and the wooden posts to Don Nicholson for $48. Mclnroy questioned why the Blyth and District Fire Department had been called Saturday to dowse a fire at the site which he felt was quite harmless. Mclnroy, who had been at the site himself that morn ing, said he understood the fire was going to be lit again on Monday morning. “If it’s going to be burned on Monday anyway, why spend $400 (the fire department’s charge for a call) and use 2,000 gallons of water to put out the fire?”, he won dered. “It’s a stupid waste of tax payers’ money.” Clerk-Treasurer John Stewart explained that council had been CLEARANCE SALE 50 off regular euchre was held at Blyth Memorial Hall, Dec. 21. Council had set a policy of only burning from Monday to Friday, he said. The site superintendent or the chair of the joint landfill site board were authorized to call the depart ment if fires got out of control. Mclnroy felt the fire was far from out of control and that the policy should be reconsidered if it would lead to such a waste of resources. Councillors said they felt it was an issue they couldn’t do anything about and it should be taken to the landfill site board. Mclnroy said he would put his complaint in writing for the next meeting of the board March 24 at the Hullett Twp. council chambers.
