Flyers host Mitchell in special game at Blyth centre
The Goderich Flyers had a rough
weekend, losing three games in as
many days.
On Sunday, in a special “heritage”
game in Blyth, the Flyers took on the
Mitchell Hawks, who would go on to
post an 8-2 win over the Flyers.
Mitchell players scored three
unanswered goals, the only goals in
the first period.
Goderich opened the second with
a power-play goal scored by Jack
Stecho (Goderich), assisted by
Nolan Gagnier (Brucefield).
Mitchell scored two more goals
before Goderich’s Colton Quipp
(Monkton) found the back of the net,
assisted by Mitch Fisher (Goderich)
and Parker Gibbings of Auburn.
Mitchell would then go on to score
three more goals before the game
ended.
Spencer Lazarevich played net for
Goderich for all 60 minutes, saving
33 of 41 shots.
Mitchell served four penalties
totalling 16 minutes while Goderich
served six totalling 21 minutes.
On Saturday, Oct. 26, Goderich
hosted Mount Forest in Goderich
and the Flyers were handed another
8-2 defeat.
In the first period, Mount
Forest scored four unanswered
goals before Goderich finished
out the period with a goal by
Jeff Fritzley of Seaforth assisted
by both Gibbings and Stecho.
Goderich started the second period
with a marker scored by Fisher
assisted by Matt Bean (Goderich)
and Kaden Hoggarth (Goderich).
Mount Forest then scored four more
goals over the second and third
periods.
Lazarevich played just over 47
minutes in the game, stopping 31 of
35 shots. Jarod Fleming finished the
game, playing nearly 13 minutes and
saving seven of 11 shots.
Mount Forest served eight
penalties totalling 16 minutes while

Flyers, stopping 24 of 26 shots.

empty-net marker.
Goderich served five penalties

infractions totalling four minutes.
The Flyers next take to the ice in
Hanover on Nov. 1 at 8 p.m.
Goderich then travels for a
rematch against Mitchell on Nov. 2.Finding the twine
The Goderich Flyers hosted a special “heritage” match in the Blyth and District Community
Centre over the weekend, hosting the Mitchell Hawks. Despite being the visitors, the Hawks
must have felt more at home as they had a definitive advantage over the Flyers by the end of
the game with Mitchell posting an 8-2 win. Above, Mitchell’s Luken Van Pelt beats Goderich

Centenaires prepare for big home-opener
The Seaforth Centenaires posted
their second win of the year with a 7-
2 victory over the Tillsonburg
Thunder on Oct. 26.
The win means the squad will be
riding high when it faces off against
perennial rival the Clinton Radars in
the Centenaires home-opener this
weekend.
Seaforth scored five unanswered
goals between the first and second
period against the Thunder.
Calvin Penny, (St. Marys) started
scoring off for the Centenaires, in
the first.
Rob VanWynsberghe (London)
found the net next and, before the
first period let out, Holdyn Lansink
of Seaforth also notched a goal.
Chad Brulotte (Dorchester) started
scoring in the second for the
Centenaires, followed by Lansink’s
second of the game.
The third started with Tillsonburg
striking back, followed by Craig
Dalrymple of Seaforth giving the
Centenaires another goal.
The Thunder did respond, finding
the back of the Seaforth net.
VanWynsberghe would have the
final word, however, earning
Seaforth its seventh goal of the
match.
Next, the Centenaires face off
against the Clinton Radars in
Seaforth’s home opener on Nov. 2.
The puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
Centenaires management is
excited for both the home-opener
and the season, with Marketing and
Promotions Director Brett Lee
saying the match against Clinton
will be exciting.
Lee explained that there are few
rivalries in the area like the
Centenaires and the Radars, being
just 15 minutes apart, and the team
has turned to social media to keep
people excited for the game, using
the hashtag #battleofhighway8.
The team’s roster is finalized, Lee
said, with 15 forwards, 10 defence
and two goaltenders signed for the
season.
Backing the squad in net are Jesse
Raymond (Woodstock), who has
played for the Sarnia Sting in the
OHL and the Stratford Cullitons,
and Alex Hutcheson (Dorchester)
who played for the Thamesford
Trojans Jr. C squad.
Lansink is currently the squad’s
highest point-earner. The former
Listowel Cyclones and Wingham
Ironmen player, after three games
played, has netted four goals and
five assists.
The Radars have had an
impressive season-start, earning
three wins over four games and
posting a league-high 22 difference
between their 36 goals for and 14
against.
The Radars also have the three
highest point earners in the league
with Kurtis Bartliff (Clinton) leading
the league with 14 points (five goals
and nine assists) followed by Max
Campbell and Sean Consitt tied at
12 points (six goals and six assists
and five goals and seven assists,
respectively).

The Wingham Ironmen split
games against Mitchell and
Walkerton over the weekend, besting
the Walkerton Hawks 8-3, but falling
to the Mitchell Hawks 6-4.
On Oct. 26, Wingham travelled
to Walkerton to earn a convincing
win.
Rhys Vollmer (Kincardine) started
scoring for the match with a power-
play marker assisted by Kyle
Stanbury (Goderich).
Logan Tolton (South Bruce)
scored next, assisted by Chase
Meurs (Kincardine) and Liam
Melady of Seaforth.
Walkerton responded, but by the
end of the first period, Melady had
earned his own goal, assisted by
Meurs and Tolton.
Wingham dominated the second
period, scoring three unanswered
goals.
Carter Collinson (Listowel) struck
first, assisted by Vollmer and
Stanbury.
Melady then completed his hat-
trick with back-to-back goals scored
10 seconds apart. The first was
assisted by Meurs and Tolton while
Collinson and Meurs assisted on the
second.
Walkerton opened scoring in
the third, however it didn’t take
long for Wingham’s Brady Becker
(Durham) to score, assisted by
Stanbury and Chris Adlys (Point
Clark).
Walkerton earned its third goal,
but Wingham would have the last
word with Stanbury earning his first
goal of the game, a power-play
marker, assisted by Collinson and
Corey Restoule (Kitchener).
Both teams played an early clean
game, being assessed only one two-
minute penalty each in the first two
periods.
The third, however, was a penalty-
heavy period, leading to Wingham
serving a total of six infractions and
21 minutes while Walkerton served
19 minutes on six infractions.
Jordan Hawthorne played net for
the Ironmen, earning the win by
saving 20 of 23 shots.
On Friday, Oct. 25, the Mitchell
Hawks edged out the Ironmen 6-4 in
Mitchell.
Mitchell started scoring in the
first, however Wingham responded
with three straight goals.
Melady scored on the power-play,
assisted by Collinson and goaltender
Garrett Golley of Bluevale.
Tanner Reid (Kincardine) struck
next for the Ironmen with an
unassisted goal.
Melady would earn the last goal
for the Ironmen in the period with a
short-handed, unassisted goal.
Mitchell scored two more before
the first period ended.
In the second, Tolton earned
Wingham’s last goal of the game
with an unassisted power-play
marker.
Mitchell found the back of the net
thrice more before the game was
done.
The game was a highly-penalized
affair with Wingham serving 18
penalties totalling 60 minutes.
Mitchell served 41 minutes on 17
infractions.
Golley played the entire game for
the Ironmen, saving 20 of 26 shots.
