Let’s hope it lasts into November. If this is the result of climate change, I have to say I am enjoying it. It is, however, unfortunate we can't have this without the downside of climate change, like warming in the extreme north and south of our world, effects on plant and animal life, etc. We have some truly beautiful scenery happening as well. Enjoy that beauty and don't get too bent out of shape knowing that those leaves will eventually need to be dealt with. Pile them up and kick your way through a pile or two and enjoy the noise like kids do. Speaking of climate change, I have to admit I miss the smell of burning leaves each fall. As kids, that was a great time to have a fun evening. With weather like this, I am loathe to put away the summer outside things even though the nice weather makes the task more enjoyable. Just a reminder, you can pick up yard waste bags at the works yard or the town hall. Fill them and leave them at the end of your driveway and the municipal truck will pick them up. I believe our cropping friends are having a much easier time harvesting this year after the problems experienced last fall. Here are some notable historical things that happened during November. In 1908, the Ford Model T came on the market for the grand sum of $825. Would doubt we could buy a vehicle for that price today. Black Monday on Wall Street, which preceeded the Great Depression, took place in October of 1929. What a spin that sent the whole world into. We have all heard the stories of what that did to individuals and families. It has been said that those who experienced that period in history carried the effects all their life. Charles Schultz first published “Peanuts” in 1950. What would life have been without the antics and insights of Charlie, Lucy and the gang? How far we have come in listening pleasure since 1982 when Sony marketed its first CD Player: the CPP-101. Believe it or not, it was just in 1971 when Walt Disney World opened in Orlando, Florida. And the theme park continues to bring more fun experiences to families. As I enjoyed breakfast served up by the Londesborough Lions Club on Sunday, I thought how lucky the community is to have that building. In just this one week it will be used three times – the Lions breakfast, the pork chop supper and the federal election. And I know a family used it for their Thanksgiving gathering. We need to be thankful for the foresight a number of years ago that turned the building over to the care of the Lions Club. Villagers will have noticed that Betty Hulley’s home has new residents. Betty’s granddaughter, Kimberly, has moved in with her two children, Raymond and Kaitlyn. Kimberly is the daughter of Ian and Deb Hulley. Father Ian and Uncle Wayne cut down several trees in her backyard on the holiday weekend. Londesborough United Church has a busy upcoming calendar. The church will be serving its annual smoked pork chop and apple pie supper on Oct. 24 at the community hall. Then on Sunday, Oct. 27 it celebrates its anniversary service. A covenanting service for their new minister, Susan McIlveen, is planned for Tuesday, Nov. 5. This service is open to all interested community persons. Its purpose is to formally welcome Susan to our faith community. On Sunday, Nov. 3, Londesborough United’s senior choir members will be part of a combined choir concert. Choirs from Londesborough, Blyth, Brucefield and Clinton will offer a concert at Clinton United that evening. Mark your calendars! It should be a fine musical evening.
