Total receipts for Brussels
Livestock for the week ending Oct.
18 were 2,711 cattle and 421 lambs
and goats.
On Tuesday fed steers and heifers
sold on a selective demand at steady
prices. Choice steers and heifers sold
$138 to $144. Second cut steers and
heifers sold $131 to $138. Cows sold
steady. On Thursday veal sold on a
good trade at steady prices. Lambs,
sheep and goats sold steady. On
Friday all cattle sold actively at
steady prices.
Elam W. Martin of Harriston,
consigned nine head that averaged
1,460 lbs. and sold for an average
price of $132.44. One red steer
weighed 1,600 lbs. and sold for
$140. Neil and Noah Weppler of
Ayton, consigned nine head that
averaged 1,417 lbs. and sold for an
average price of $126.61. Two black
steers averaged 1,473 lbs. and sold
for an average price of $139.50.
There were 175 cows on offer.
Beef sold $70 to $80 with sales to
$96; D1, $60 to $65 with sales to
$68; D2, $55 to $59; D3, $48 to $54.
William Pentland of Goderich,
consigned one charolais cow that
weighed 1,605 lbs. and sold for $96.
There were 15 bulls selling $75 to
$127. Premier Blues of Dublin,
consigned one blue bull that
weighed 1,815 lbs. and sold for
$127.
There were 150 head of veal on
offer. Beef veal sold $150 to $175
with sales to $179; good holsteins,
$118 to $135 with sales to $139; Sl
heavy holsteins, $116 to $125; heavy
holsteins, $95 to $115; medium
holsteins, $108 to $120; plain
holsteins, $80 to $90.
Lamar Frey of Listowel,
consigned seven head that averaged
845 lbs. and sold for an average
price of $157.71. One limousin steer
weighed 870 lbs. and sold for $179.
Reuben S. Martin of Wallenstein,
consigned five head that averaged
852 lbs. and sold or an average price
of $171.81. One blonde steer
weighed 965 lbs. and sold for $178.
Creekside Acres Ltd. of Strathroy,
consigned 24 holstein steers that
averaged 706 lbs. and sold for an
average price of $130.84. Two
holstein steers averaged 685 lbs. and
sold for $139.
Lambs, 50 - 64 lbs. sold $242 to
$250; 65 - 79 lbs., $188 to $296; 80
- 94 lbs., $179 to $230; 95 - 109 lbs.,
$186 to $216; 110 lbs. and over,
$185 to $191.
Sheep sold $100 to $150.
Goats: billies sold $150 to $300;
nannies, $100 to $150; kids: dairy,
$190 to $260; meat, $265 to $330.
Shirley Archambault of Auburn,
consigned 14 goats. Two goats
averaged 54 lbs. and sold for an
average price of $330. Grant
Campbell of Iona Station, consigned
19 head. One lamb weighed 70 lbs.
and sold for $296. Five lambs
averaged 96 lbs. and sold for an
average price of $216.

lbs., $204 to $270; 500 - 599 lbs.,
$205 to $254; 600 - 699 lbs., $203 to
$235; 700 - 799 lbs., $192 to $211;
800 - 899 lbs., $195 to $203; 900 -
999 lbs., $174 to $194; 1,000 lbs.
and over, $165 to $183.
Top quality stocker heifers, 400 -
499 lbs. sold $174 to $218; 500 - 599
lbs., $176 to $198; 600 - 699 lbs.,
$173 to $185.50; 700 - 799 lbs.,
$163 to $170.50; 800 - 899 lbs.,
$163 to $178; 900 lbs. and over,
$152 to $165.50.
Carolyn Kelly of Farrelton,
Quebec, consigned 26 steers and 34
heifers. Twelve steers averaged 596
lbs. and sold for an average price of
$228. Seventeen heifers averaged
586 lbs. and sold for an average
price of $194. Edward E. Gingerich
of Lucknow, consigned 31 steers.
Twenty-one steers averaged 759 lbs.
and sold for an average price of
$207.75. Joseph Sauder of Linwood,
consigned 21 heifers. Eleven heifers
averaged 1,067 lbs. and sold for an
average price of $158.
Congratulations are extended to
Don Procter and Mary Jane Rawls,
who were married on Oct. 5.
Congratulations are also extended to
Ralph and Nancy Campbell on their
50th wedding anniversary on Oct.
11.
The community extends sincere
sympathy to Arnold Bruce, Reta
Ross and Norma and Des Gurnett
and families in the loss of their
brother and uncle Elmer Bruce, who
passed away on Sept. 25.
There were four-and-a-half tables
of cards in play at the Belgrave
Community Centre on Friday, Oct.
11. Winners were: high gold, Lillian
Appleby; second high gold, Eileen
Sellers; most shoots gold, Mary
McIntosh; high white, Ken Speer;
second high white, Mac Brooks and
most shoots, white, Mae Ritchie.
The next cards will be on Friday,
Oct. 25 at 1 p.m. Everyone is

Kim Walker presented Pastor
Brian Hymers and his wife Jackie
with gifts after his final service with
the church on Sunday. He will now
take over as the minister at
Egmondville United Church after his
time in Belgrave.
Guest speakers at Belgrave will be
Chris Beaumont for Oct. 27 and
Nov. 3 and Bruce Whitmore for Nov.
10, 17 and 24.
On Oct. 23 at 7:30 p.m., the
Belgrave Official Board will meet in
the lower hall of Knox United
Church, Belgrave. There will be a
meeting at Brussels United Church
on Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. Topics to be
discussed are shared minister
agreements and financial viability
concerns.

Hymers departs Belgrave church
HOG helps out
Harley Owners Group (HOG), a chapter of the National Harley Owners Group, donated $500
to the Maitland Munchies breakfast group earlier this month. The organization includes
members from across southwestern Ontario and holds events year-round to donate to
organizations like the Maitland Munchies. Events include barbecues, rallies, yard sales and
chili cook-offs. The events couldn’t happen without local supporters according to HOG
members, who thanked numerous local businesses in Wingham for their support. Above, HOG
