Another Thanksgiving Day is
history and hopefully your time was
spent in giving thanks for the people
and things around you. That’s the
good thing about traditions, it makes
us stop and think about the other
people in our lives and how we relate
to them and their time. So many
folks gathered over the weekend to
celebrate life.
So with Thanksgiving gone, the
time we are expected to stop and say
it out loud is over for this year. For
many that’s part of everyday; a
moment to acknowledge the bounty
of our lives, a daily habit. Listening
to others, it seems they forget to give
thanks and complaints and
suggestions are the offered
communication. So for this next
week, wouldn’t it be nice every time
someone starts to complain,
interrupt them with a comment on
the blessing of safe water? Safe
roads, clear air, green space could be
the next items of interest. Life and
health and grandchildren are always
good. For everyone’s mental health,
a positive attitude is very good.
Life is 90 per cent attitude, and
how we look at situations often
offers the outcome. It takes effort to
stop the negative from surfacing but
it can be done. So hit life with
positives, even a balance would be
good.
Soup & More 2 is heading into its
10th year and no one is more
surprised than the volunteers who
have been there from the beginning.
Elaine Armstrong gave us the
healthy statistics for the year and all
is well. With Mary Douma and Val
Nagels booking the volunteers for a
regular group who appreciate the
work and food offered, all is well.
Oh yes, another thing to be thankful
for – a community that sees a need
and offers sensible solutions and
ready to do the work needed. So
good work to the volunteers of Soup
& More 2.
Enjoy the autumn days.
Bye now, Betty G.W.

Morris-Turnberry Mayor Jamie
Heffer represented the municipality
at several fairs last month, and he
says the staying power of the events
is admirable.
Having visited the 160th Howick-
Turnberry Fall Fair, the 158th
Brussels Fall Fair and the 99th
Elementary School Fair in Belgrave,
Heffer said he was impressed by the
events.
“These events bring communities
together,” he said. “It takes a
significant amount of effort from
local families to keep them going.”
Heffer joined Howick Reeve Doug
Harding in judging a pet competition
on Sept. 28 at the Howick-Turnberry
Fair, and Heffer said it was a great
chance to interact with youth, and he
was glad to be a part of it.

Earlier this month, Morris-
Turnberry Council approved two
severances creating four building
lots on Augusta Street in Lower
Town.
The applicants have completed
studies necessary for the
developments, Chief Administrative
Officer Trevor Hallam explained,
including those necessary to
determine the appropriate size for
the lots, the necessary graded
drainage and a stormwater
management assessment.
The only caveat to the approval
was that one property will not be
accessible by a road that meets
municipal standards, however that
will be remedied through future
agreements with the developers,
Hallam said.

Morris-Turnberry Council agreed
to put flags at half-mast on Dec. 6 to
recognize National Day of
Remembrance and Action on
Violence against Women in Canada.
A memorial ceremony is set for
10 a.m. in Goderich to recognize the
day.
Mayor Jamie Heffer said this was
a request that the municipality has
received before. After some brief
discussion, council approved the
request.

Morris-Turnberry Councillor
Kevin Freiburger says that a meeting
between the Maitland Valley
Conservation Authority (MVCA)
and the Minister of the Environment,
Conservation and Parks Jeff Yurek
was well received. Freiburger is
Morris-Turnberry’s representative
on the authority’s board.
“The minister is going around to
many conservation authorities
personally and seeing how things are
going,” Freiburger explained. “The
MVCA was the first stop for him and
staff think the meeting went well.”
Freiburger said that the MVCA
was able to highlight successful
projects Yurek wasn’t aware of
before visiting.
