Total receipts for Brussels Livestock for the week ending Sept. 27 were 2,090 cattle and 551 lambs and goats. On Tuesday fed steers and heifers sold on a selective demand at prices $1 to $2 lower. Choice steers and heifers sold $134 to $137. Second cut steers and heifers sold $130 to $134. Cows sold steady. On Thurs- day veal sold on a strong active trade $1 to $2 higher. Lambs sold higher, sheep and goats sold steady. On Friday calves sold on a strong active trade at prices $2 to $3 higher. Yearlings sold steady with grass cattle selling $2 to $3 higher. Leonard and Andrew Black of Proton Station, consigned 12 steers that averaged 1,495 lbs. and sold for an average price of $133.10. Five black steers averaged 1,464 lbs. and sold for an average price of $135.75. Southlore Farms Inc. of Palmerston, consigned 20 head that averaged 1,409 lbs. and sold for an average price of $120.36. One red heifer weighed 1,320 lbs. and sold for $132.50. There were 225 cows on offer. Beef sold $72 to $82 with sales to $87; D1, $66 to $72; D2, $59 to $65; D3, $48 to $58. CLE Farms Ltd. of Gowanstown, consigned one rwf cow at 1,400 lbs. sold for $87. There were 10 bulls selling $81 to $109. CLE Farms of Gowanstown, consigned one bwf bull that weighed 2,075 lbs. and sold for $109. There were 230 head of veal on offer. Beef veal sold $140 to $165 with sales to $169; good holsteins, $125 to $130 with sales to $133; Sl heavy holsteins, $105 to $112; heavy holsteins, $95 to $108 medium holsteins, $98 to $114; plain holsteins, $75 to $88. Paul M Martin of Lucknow, consigned three heifers that averaged 882 lbs. and sold for an average price of $166.35. One limousin heifer weighed 895 lbs. and sold for $169. Scott Farquhar of Goderich, consigned five holstein steers that averaged 682 lbs. and sold for an average price of $121.29. One holstein steer weighed 690 lbs. and sold for $134. Paul Pennington, Mildmay, consigned seven holstein steers that averaged 696 lbs. and sold for an average price of $124.53. One holstein steer weighed 705 lbs. and sold for $133. Lambs, 50 - 64 lbs. sold $218 to $300; 65 - 79 lbs., $180 to $230; 80 - 94 lbs., $183 to $200; 95 - 109 lbs., $186 to $193; 110 lbs. and over, $181 to $184. Sheep sold $110 to $170. Goats: billies sold $150 to $300; nannies, $75 to $160; kids: dairy, $225 to $247; meat, $270 to $325. Darrin Durrand of Hensall, consigned 12 goats. Two goats averaged 108 lbs. and sold for an average of $325. Top quality stocker steers under 400 lbs. sold $233 to $247; 400 - 499 lbs., $193 to $235; 500 - 599 lbs., $197 to $232; 600 - 699 lbs., $202.50 to $228.50; 700 - 799 lbs., $192 to $208; 800 - 899 lbs., $188 to $197.75; 900 - 999 lbs., $179 to $188.75; 1,000 lbs. and over, $176 to $186.25, Top quality stocker heifers, 400 - 499 lbs. sold $178 to $205; 500 - 599 lbs., $184 to $195; 600 - 699 lbs., $171 to $185; 700 - 799 lbs., $163 to $174.25; 800 - 899 lbs., $165 to $174; 900 lbs. and over, $150 to $170.50. Allan Aitchison of New Liskeard, consigned 75 heifers. Thirteen charolais heifers averaged 822 lbs. and sold for an average price of $174.25. Kevin Horsburg of Holstein, consigned 50 gold steers. Sixteen steers averaged 978 lbs. and sold for an average price of $188.75. Mark Glassford of Caledon, consigned 49 steers and heifers. Fourteen charolais steers averaged 876 lbs. and sold for an average price of $189.50. UPCOMING SALES Big winners The Brussels Belgrave 4-H beef show and the annual lamb show at the Brussels Fall Fair brought out some stiff competition. Coming out on top of the breeding ewe category was Brussels Fall Fair Junior Ambassador James Speer, centre, while reserve went to his brother Ben, right.
