There was much fun and laughter over both the questions and the answers. Recognizing that life is full of new beginnings, Harriet Shillinglaw, Laura Scott and Brenda Radford chose that as their theme for the meditation/program. New beginnings come in many circumstances: a new school year, a move to new surroundings, a change in careers, joining a new group, life after the death of a loved one, starting life over after an accident or tornado, etc. All these events draw on a person's personal strength and can be put in the hands of God if we but ask. Moreover each of us can offer help to those around us with a kind and welcoming word, a word of encouragement, a gentle touch, a hug, a note, a smile, a listening ear, etc. Everyone was encouraged to offer their help and prayer for situations and people in new beginnings. Many ladies offered their own personal experiences of new beginnings. The scripture passage, read by Laura, was Matt. 28: 16 to 20. Harriet ended the program with a thoughtful poem titled “A New Beginning”. President Bev Riley presided over the business part of the evening. Donations were approved for four area hospitals, the United Church Resource Centre in Mitchell and the Canadian Foodgrains Bank. It was also agreed to give $2,100 to the United Church Mission and Service Fund for 2019. The Christmas potluck is set for Nov. 18. Groups were assigned their duties for that evening. Donations will be received that evening for Room to Grow and the Women’s Shelter. Lists were updated for remembering our post-secondary school students and for keeping in touch with others from our congregation. Caterings and other projects received discussion. NEWS FROM LONDESBORO By BRENDA RADFORD Call 523-4296 PEOPLE AROUND LONDESBORO Central Huron Council will further investigate claims of traffic concerns on Princess Street in Clinton. The street, which is in the north end of the town, is home to several of Clinton’s schools and Marion and Dan Gowing are concerned about speeding along that stretch. The Gowings spoke to Central Huron Council at its Sept. 16 meeting, outlining the problem and suggesting several solutions. With no posted speed limit on the road, the Gowings suggested speed limit signs to remind drivers of how slow they should be driving.Additionally, they suggested a greater police presence and the one tried and true method of reducing speeding: speed bumps. The Gowings, in speaking with council, said they had moved to Clinton last year and loved it, with the exception of the speeding they were seeing at all hours of the day along Princess Street. Dan claimed that many drivers are going over 80 kilometres an hour. With an unposted speed limit, cars are required to drive 50 kilometres per hour or less on that By Shawn Loughlin The Citizen CH to investigate traffic issue Continued on page 19
