Edith Baker, widow of the late
Tom Raker of Brussels, passed
away at Wingham and District
Hospital, Monday, Aug. 5, 1996 in
her 82nd year. Shc is survived by
two sons, Albert and wife, Linda,
of Schomberg; Alan and wife,
Shirley, of RR3, Brussels; one
daughter, Elda and husband, Ray
Gawne, of London; 10 grand-
children, 11 great-grandchildren,
one sister, Elva, and husband,
Donald Reid, three brothers; Ivel,
Jamie and wife Louise and Ronald
and w de, Brenda.
She was predeceased by
daughter, Thomasene, two grand-
daughters and two sisters.
Visitation was held at the Peebles
Funeral Home, 141 John St.,
Atwood, on Wednesday, Aug. 7
from 7 9.
The funeral was held Thursday,
Aug. 8 at 3 p.m.
Interment was at Trinity
Cemetery at Becton.

BERTHA MAY JOHNSTON
Bertha May Johnston, of Huron7
view, formerly of RR1, Londes-
boro, passed away July 29, 1996, at
the age of 91.
Born in Hullett Twp. to Smith
and Mary (Mason ) Eno, Mrs.
Johnston was the beloved wife of
Robert Gordon Johnston. who Pre-
deceased her in 1994.
She was the dear mother of Frank
and Dorothy Johnston of Londes-
boro, Ena (Mrs. William Hill) of
Summerville, mother-in-law of
Geraldine Dale of Londesboro and
loving grandmother to 10 grand
and 13 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Johnston was predeceased
by one son, Ervin; two sisters, Lil-
lian (Mrs. Angus McDougall) and
Grace (Mrs. Will Bromley) and one
brother, Albert Eno.
Peter Zimmerman officiated at
the Aug. 1 funeral service at Tasker
Chapel of Beattie-Falconer Funeral
Home, Blyth.
Interment was at Blyth Union
Cemetery.

Doreen (Lamont) Seip passed
away at the County of Bruce
General Hospital, Walkerton,
Sunday, July 21, 1996 at the age of
66 years from a heart attack.
Born in Grey Twp., she was the
daughter of the late Hugh and Mary
(Burgess) Lamont.
Having attended SS1 Grey and
SS1O, Grey (Union), Mrs. Seip
returned for the recen, Grey Twp.
School Reunion, which she
enjoyed.
She is survived by her husband,
George Scip, of the Clifford area; a
daughter, Korleen, and husband
Doug Stapleton of Rainy River; a
son Terrance and wife, Barbara
Seip, of Etobicoke and a grandson,
Chadwick Scip. Mrs. Seip is also
survived by a sister, Shirley and
husband, Adrian Verstoep, of
Monkton and two brothers, James
and wife, Doris, of London and
Graham Lamont of Brussels, as
well as several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a brother,
Leonard.
Visitation was held at the Garret
Funeral Chapel, Clifftrd, July 23.
Funeral service was held at the St.
James Lutheran Church near
Clifford, Wednesday, July 24 at
2 p.m.
Interment was at St. James
Cemetery.

John Alexander McWhirter
passed away Thursday, Aug. 8,
1996 at University Hospital, Lon-
don, in his 72nd year.
He was the beloved husband of
the late Kathleen McWhirter
(1989), the loving husband of Doris
McWhirter, the loved father of
Garry and Dianne McWhirter of
'Clandeboye, Jacqueline and Leslie
Cook of Blyth, Connie and Don
Pletch of Lucan and Gail and Bob
Hodgins of Calgary and the loving
grandfather of Bryana, Cody, Kath-
leen, Brittany, Amanda, Mike, Dan,
Marc and Ashley.
Rev. Ross Gill officiated at the
funeral service from Betts Funeral
Home, Brussels, Aug. 12.
Interment was at Brussels Ceme-
tery.
Pallbearers were Mike Pletch,
Dan Pletch, Don Pletch, Mark Hod-
gins, Bob Hodgins and Leslie
Cook.

The teams were tied at the, end of
the first, but a shut out in the visi-
tors half, with a two run bottom put
the hosts ahead. Ethel nudged clos-
er getting two to Belgrave's one in
the third, but a solid Belgrave
fourth closed the door. Ethel man-
aged one in the fourth and two at
the top of the fifth, but it was not
enough to snuff Belgrave's hot bats.
The Belgrave PeeWee Boys ball
team had to settle for -a tie when
they took on Atwood, at home, July
30.
The home team jumped to an
early lead with two runs in the first
and second and one in the third,
after Atwood had tallied one in the
first at-bat.
The Belgrave runs were scored
by Kevin Hopf, Justin Campbell
(two), Craig Marks and Tim Robin-
son.
Belgrave went in to the bottom of
the fifth down 8-5 after allowing
two runs in the fourth and five in
the fifth. Hopf, Campbell and Jason
Fear scored, bringing the team into
a tie with their opponent.
Atwood remained scoreless
through , the final two frames, but
Belgrave could not manage the go
ahead run.
