Fastball Tournament with a 12-10
championship win over the
Monkton Muskrats.
The Mets have reached the finals
five years in a row (tieing the
Wingham BP's record), while their
1996 win gives them four "A'
titles, the most by any club in the
tournament history.
Monkton held an early 5-1 lead
but were forced into extra innings
when Mitchell rallied for a 6-6 tie.
The Mets led 9-6 in the eighth
and 10-9 in the ninth before finally
winning 12-10 in the third extra
inning when Mitchell's Bob Ward
struck out Jeff Smith with the bases
loaded.
Monkton's Luke Smith enjoyed a
five for five game including a two
RBI homerun in the eighth to tie
while Mitchell's Kevin Quipp was
four for four with a sacrifice.
In the consolation final
Sebringville ANAF lost a five run

The Brussels Tigers became the
first hometown team to reach the
championship semi-finals but
unfortunately a 25 year upward
climb ended quickly with a 15
minute downward slide in a 10-6
loss to the Mitchell Mets.
Trailing 1-0, the Tigers took a
three run lead on back-to-back
homeruns by Ken Higgins and
Jason Daw, and held a 5-3 lead
After five innings.
However an error-filled sixth
inning gave the Mets seven runs
enroute to the win.
The Tigers opened the
tournament with an 8-0 win over
Sebringville. Jason Daw allowed
only two batters to reach base while
batting two for three including a
fifth inning game ending home run.
Murray Pipe also batted two for
three as did Ken Higgins.
Sunday morning the Tigers
eliminated Walton in a 13-4 error-
filled game. Tim Fritz reached base
on all four attempts, including a
first inning homerun while Higgins
was three for four, also with a first
inning homerun, as was Daw.
Doug Conley pitched the win,
ending the game with three
consecutive strikeouts.
The executive is still looking for
one or two assistant coaches and an
assistant manager. If interested
contact Doug McArter or any
executive member. Also volunteers
are needed for various committees
like door admission, hockey
school, score and timekeeps, etc.

rookies Aug. 24 and 25 with
veterans returning the next
weekend.

duties with Daw.

Huron County Fastball Schedule in
first place and will meet the Zurich
Rangers in opening round playoff
action. Game one was Monday
night in Brussels with game two in
Zurich tonight at 7:30.
In WOAA semi-final action the
Monkton Muskrats scored three
runs in their last at bat for a 3-2 win
and one game lead over the Tigers.
Game two in the best of three series
is Friday night in Brussels at 7:30.
Brussels opened the scoring in
the third and went ahead 2-0 in the
seventh. After Monkton's Jeff Earl
rounded out, Luke Smith and Barry
Ward homeruns sandwiched a
triple by Jeff Smith for the win.
Tim Fritz was three for three for
the Tigers, scoring once and
singling home Gary Pipe.

the distance for the respective clubs
each allowing six base runners.
