The news from ondesboro Compiled by June Fothergill Phone 523-4360 Church services resume Newlyweds receive community welcome Since this is a slow news week I thought I would tell you a little more about my trip out west or as my daughter Cassandra says, 'To West.' The one thing that I wanted to mention was how they are still pretty western. It seems that my brother's neighbour to the south, Billy is his name, was tired of putting up with his neighbour's bull always breaking the fence and getting in with his cows and fighting with his bull. Billy had pure-bred Red Angus and the neighbour bull was Charolais. I guess this has been going on for a few years now. Ed, the owner of the Charolais, put up an electric fence last year, but the battery went dead and the story goes that he would rather go fishing than look after cows, so the battery stayed dead. Well, one morning Billy could take it no longer. The bull was on his place once again doing its thing, so Billy got his gun, went out into the field and shot him. I was talking to ole Billy a few days later and he said how sick he felt after he had done it. The police were involved but there was nothing that could be done. Ed, the owner of the dead bull never phoned or showed up. Celebrating August birthdays are: Aug. 3, Allison Beuerman, Amanda Vick; Aug. 4, Heidi McClure; Aug. 7, Heather Dietz; Aug. 8, Darryl Houston; Aug. 9, Leona McDonald, Brian McGavin, Greg Humphries, Ross Bennett; Aug. 10, Tina McClure, Katie Williamson; Aug. 11, Alvin McDonald, Trevor Gibbons; Aug. 13, Belinda Gibbons, Grant Bolton; Aug."14, Craig Hackwell, Kelsey Bennewies; Aug. 15, Gerrid Dalton, Tyler Elligsen; Aug. 18, He did however move his cows. When I went by his place a few days later they were all corralled. I never did learn whether Ed had the cattle corralled because he was afraid Billy would go shooting them or whethei Ed decided it was time to get out of the cow business and was getting ready to ship them. I guess Billy is somewhat of a hero around the little town of Vanderhoof. He said everyone is coming up to him and asking all about it. I also imagine that the story gets added to everytime it is told. We welcome into the community the newly married Diane and Keith Williamson. Rev. Randy Banks officiated at the wedding of Diane Eskritt and Keith Williamson on Saturday 'at Duffs United Church. After the wedding the couple and guests were served a lovely lunch by Duffs UCW.
