Men pair off in lawn bowling tourney
Murray Pipe crushed a two out,
two strike, pitch to deep centre
field in the bottom of the seventh to
give the hometown Tigers a 10-9
win over the Walton Brewers.
The Saturday night game was
played in conjunction with the
Optimist Funfest and, judging by
the an turnout interest in fastball,
especially the Walton/Brussels
rivalry, still exists.
Pete Exel batted three for three
while Ken Higgins and Doug Shaw
reached base on three of four
attempts as did Scott Robinson of
the Brewers. Doug Conley went the
distance for Brussels while Scott
Leonhardt and Bob Steiss shared
duties for Walton.
The Tigers opened quickly and
held a 7-2 lead after three innings.
Walton rallied with five in the
fourth, then after giving up single

With an 8-1 record, the Belgrave
Mite Girls succumbed for only the
second time this season.

times in the first inning and holding
Belgrave runless.
Ronna Shaw stopped a strong
Walton hit to the shortstop, holding
the runner at first.
Bridget Kellington cracked a
double while Nicole Meier added a
single.
Walton took a 7-0 lead before •
Belgrave could push one run across
in the bottom of the second. Kristen
Palmer struck with a triple.
After allowing three more runs
by their opponents in the third, the
Belgrave bats came to life; hitting
for seven.
Meier blasted a triple to bring in
two runs, Ashley Gaunt and Emily
Elston each hit doubles and
Michelle Cook and Kellington
added singles to the total.
On defense, Meier made a good
effort on a pop up at first, making
for a very close play.
Kellington added another single
in the fourth, but it was not enough
to overcome the three-run deficit.
Cook and Palmer shared the
pitching duties, each assisting in
put outs. Palmer scooped a
grounder, threw to Coral Nicholson
to get the runner at second out.
Cook and Palmer also combined
for good tosses to get players out at
third.
Nicholson and Elston, who
shared the job of catching, did a
great job.
It was a good game for both
squads, with a low score and even-
