Pastor's father sings at service
There were close to 150 people
who attended the 80th birthday
open house for Clarence Yuill at
the Women's Institute Hall on
Sunday, July 7. Lunch was catered
and served by the United Church
Women evening unit group.
Well wishers attended from
North York, St. Catharines,
Vancouver, Fergus, London, St.
Marys, and surrounding areas.
Following the open house the
immediate family enjoyed a
delicious supper at JJ's Fireside
Cafe.
Happy Birthday Clarence from
the community.
Susan Hobden and friend, Pat
Davison of Kingston, Walter and
Liz Hobden, Eganville were
weekend guests at the home of
Rev. Alan Rush, Rev. Mary Jane
Hobden and Stephen. They
attended Stephen's baptismal
service at Knox as did Ann Rush,
Cathy and Bill Nanson, Jeff, Katie
and Laura of Windsor. Friends and
relatives attended from Eganville,
Kingston, Simcoe, Ingersoll,

Allan's father was unable to
attend as he is a patient at
Metropolitan Hospital in Windsor.

recovery, remembering him in their
thoughts and prayers.

Catharines and Mrs. Nick Besely of
North York were weekend guests at'
the home of Laura Johnston. They
attended the 80th birthday party of
Clarence Yuill.
George and Mary Johnston, Terra
and Erin of Ilderton were Sunday
visitors with Laura Johnston and
also attended the birthday party.
Mrs. Ron Hill of RR 1,
Tavistock, visited Mrs. Beth
Procter on Sunday.
Betty Irwin, Belgrave and Helen
Wilson of London spent last week
holidaying at a cottage near Grand
Bend.

the lay minister Elly Van Bergen in
Knox United Church, Belgrave.

Due to inclement weather the
Brandon Cemetery service was
held indoors at the Presbyterian
Church, 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 7.
Rev. Cathrine Campbell conducted
the service.
Hymns He Leadeth Me and Unto
the Hills were sung, accompanied
by Mrs. Hazel Dalrymple. Special
music was presented by Arnold
Bruce, violinist and Mrs.
Dalrymple.
A moment of silence in
memorandum was observed.
Rev. Campbell delivered an
appropriate meditation after
reading, Isaiah 40: 3-11 and John
14: 1-14.
The benediction closed the
service.

Leishmans
reunite
The 51st annual Nethery-
Leishman reunion was held on
Sunday, June 23 at the community
hall, Londesboro, with 48 signing
the register. Guests were present
from Hamilton, Forest, Goderich,
Holmesville, Exeter, Clinton,
Wingham, Brussels, Bluevale,
Blyth, Londesboro, Belgrave and
surrounding district.
Ella Ives of Blyth was in charge
of the sports and contests, which
were enjoyed by all.
Following the supper hour, the
president, John Nethery of Forest,
conducted the meeting. He
announced the deaths during the
past year: Donna Johnston, Richard
Snell, James McGill and Mrs. Glen
McGill. A few moment's silence
followed in remembrance.
Special prizes were awarded by
John Nethery to: youngest person
present, Jessica Nethery of RR 1,
Belgrave; oldest person present,
Isabel Garniss of Wingham; person
coming the farthest, Dorothy Kerr
of Hamilton; most recently married
couples, John and Stephanie
McEwcn of Wingham; a birthday
nearest June 23 went to Clare Van
Camp of Brussels.
Other prizes went to: guessing
the number of candies in a jar,
Dorothy Kerr; lucky plate, John
McEwan and guessing the records
from Guinness Book of Records
1994 was won by Larry Johnston.
The 1997 Nethery-Leishman
reunion will be held on June 25 at
Blyth. President for next year is
Brian Potter of RR 1, Belgrave and
secretary:treasurer is Mary Isabel
Nethery of Belgrave.
The reunion closed by singing
Auld Lang Syne.
Walter Hobden on the guitar and
his daughter, Susan Hobden,
accompanied by Anne Spivey on
the piano.
Following the Call to Worship
and the Prayer of Approach the
hymn New Every Morning was
sung and the Prayer of Confession
said in unison.
The ministry of music was
provided by Susan and Walter
Hobden, Rev. Mary Jane's father,
accompanied by Anne Spivey on
the piano, singing, Child of
Blessing, Child of Promise.
The children's hymn was Teach
Me God to Wonder followed by
Rev. Cheryl-Ann Stadelbauer-
Sampa telling the children's story.
She showed objects relating to
water and their uses, with reference
to baptism.
Michele Pletch and Peggy
Procter looked after the nursery.
Van Bergen read the Epistle
lesson, Romans 7: 15-27, "Inner
Conflict". She chose "Labour of
Love" as her sermon topic.
The baptismal hymn A Little
Child the Saviour Came was
followed by. the sacrament of
baptism, which was presided by
Rev. Cheryl Ann Stadelbauer-
Sampa.
John McIntosh, clerk of session
presented Stephen Andrew Rush
for initiation into the body of Christ
through baptism.
Following the baptism, a candle
was lit and given along with the
baptismal certificate.
The offering was received by
Candace Irwin, Lindsay Michie,
John Nixon and Ken Procter. This
was followed by the singing of All
That I Am.
Walter Hobden and Susan sang
another duet My God and I
accompanied by Anne Spivey.
The closing hymn was Great Is
Thy Faithfulness followed by
commissioning and the
benediction.
Calvin-Brick, Bervie, Kinloss
and Egmondville United Churches
and Belgrave Presbyterian church
attended for this special day.
Bouquets of peonies and roses had
been arranged by Ruth Gordon and
Lillian Campbell.
