Bulldogs win 2 of 3,l-goalers
Bull-ed over
It was a hard-hitting game on Sunday as the Hanover
Barons breezed into Brussels, then limped home as the
losers of a 3-2 contest, against the hosting Junior C Bulls.
Blyth Atoms Bulldogs
trounce Zurich 11-2
Blyth Atom Bulldogs had to set
tle for a split as they suffered defeat
at the hands of Zurich, then a win
away against Milverton.
On Dec. 11 the Zurich team trav
elled to town, and showed their
hosts no mercy trouncing them 11-
2. Cody Anderson and Tyler
Kemighan scored the Blyth goals.
Blyth Tykes
blast Clinton
The Blyth Tyke Bulldogs were
less than gracious guests as they
left their hosting Clinton team in
defeat, Dec. 20.
The visitors had three on the
board in the first period before
allowing Clinton to score.
Johnathon McDowell, assisted by
Lee Watkins got things started. Just
over two minutes later Tony Bean
snuck one between the pipes fol
lowed at the 8:38 mark by Derek
Youngblut. Youngblut cancelled
the Clinton goal with another shot
before the period ended.
Bean nailed two for a hattrick to
finished the Blyth scoring in the
second. Clinton managed one more
before the final buzzer sounded to
finish the game at 6-2 for the visit
ing squad.
Assists went to Brett Bean and Dar
ren Austin.
Dec. 19, the squad edged Milver
ton 7-5. After ending the first peri
od in a tie, with Austin, assisted by
Kemighan getting the Blyth mark
er, a strong second period put the
Blyth team well ahead. Milverton

The Blyth Midget Bulldogs
played three one-goal games last
week, winning 5-4 at home against
Wallace Twp. on Dec. 15, beating
Wingham 8-7 on the road on Dec.
16 and losing 4-3 in Howick on
Dec. 21 against Wallace Twp.
The first game with Wallace was
a see-saw battle with the Bulldogs
pulling out the win with a late goal
by Mike Ansley. ‘
The game was tied 1-1 after one
period of play as Mike Haggitt
opened the scoring with assists to
Ansley and Chris Carter. Kyle
Anderson set up Haggitt five
minutes into the second as Blyth
took a 2-1 lead, but Wallace
responded with two powerplay
goals one minute apart to regain the
lead. Haggitt, with assists to Corey
Campbell and Darryl Postma,
completed his hat-trick with 33
seconds remaining in the period to
knot the game 3-3.
Haggitt continued his magic as
he won a faceoff deep in the
Wallace zone and set up Corey
Campbell's blueline blast that
deflected into the net, giving the
Dogs a 4-3 lead with only four
seconds showing on the clock.
Although Wallace tied the game
midway through the third frame,
Bantams’
streak ends
The Blyth Bantam hockey club's
winning streak ended at 14 games
Thursday night in Milverton.
The Bantams started the week
with a 3-2 victory Monday night in
Blyth over Elma-Logan. Blyth fell
behind 2-0, but then came back
with three unanswered goals.
Adam Anderson scored twice
and Shawn Bromley added one,
with assists going to Tyler Slewart,'
Joel Arthur and Matt Anderson. - -
On Thursday night, Blyth'
suffered its first loss of the season,
7-2 to Milverton. Blyth was simply
out-hustled in a losing cause.
Craig Marks and M. Anderson
scored for Blyth. Assists went to
Darrell McDougall and Arthur.
Ryan Lee, Travis Campbell and
Dean Wilson shared the
goaltending duties over the two
games.
Blyth will compete in the
Kincardine Silver Stick tournament
during the Christmas holidays. The
team will compete in a division
with Dundalk, Tavistock and
Stephen Twp.
Campbell and Haggitt teamed up
again as they set up Ansley's low,
screened slapper that gave Blyth a
5-4 lead with just over four minutes
remaining. Although Wallace
threatened until the final buzzer,
cage keeper Scott Bromley
provided the necessary saves,
giving Blyth the 5-4 win.
It was truly a case of last shot
wins in Wingham as the Bulldogs
shaded their hosts in a wild
shootout.
Although Wingham opened the
scoring early in the first. Blyth tied
the game two minutes later and
never trailed the rest of the way,
although they couldn't find the
killer instinct and continually let
Wingham back into the game with
some sloppy play.
Haggitt and Craig Marks dented
the twine two times each with
single lamplighters credited to
Postma, Dave Ansley, Mike
Courtney and Steve Oldfield.
Jeff Cowan was top playmaker
with three assists while Postma and
Dave Ansley chipped in with two
each. Single helpers were recorded
by Haggitt, Mike Ansley, Tyler
Stewart and Jamie Black.
After Blyth went ahead 8-6 with
an empty net goal with one minute
left in the game, Wingham again
closed the gap in the final minute
and almost tied the game in the
dying seconds.
When asked to comment about
the game, Coach Wayne
McDougall could only ask, "Did
anybody get hurt, besides the goal
judge?"
Blyth completed their week with
a 4-3 loss in Howick against the
Wallace Lumberkings. Team
management once again patched
together a lineup that included four
Bantam Bulldogs.
Mike Ansley was the only
Bulldog to dent the twine as he
recorded the hattrick. Ansley
opened the game scoring 58
seconds after the opening faceoff as
he drilled a bullet to the top shelf.
Wallace took a 2-1 lead midway
through the second period but
Ansley tied the game with the
Bulldogs enjoying a two-man
power play. Black and Bantam
callup Derek Cook assisted on the
goal.
Wallace took a 3-2 lead in the
dying seconds of the period but
Ansley again tied the game 34
seconds into the third stanza.
Darrell Gerrits recorded the assist
as Ansley batted the puck out of the
air from the edge of the crease.
Wallace took the lead 35 seconds
later and a short-staffed Bulldog
team couldn’t notch the equalizer.
The Bulldogs played a gutsy
game against an aggressive
opponent as the team struggles to
ice a consistent lineup. Bantam
Dean Wilson played a steady game
between the pipes and the rest of
the Bulldogs gave what they could
until the final buzzer sounded.
Coach Chamney staled, "Right
now we're just trying to get through
the Christmas season and,
hopefully by the new year, we'll be
able to ice a full, healthy lineup
that's willing to make a
commitment to the team as the
upcoming playoffs approach."
