So said Don Crawford of the Brussels Fire Department regarding the new emergency van recently purchased. Because of the new law coming into effect in 1999 stating that fire men will no longer be able to ride on the back of fire trucks the Brus sels Fire Department had to find a rescue van. After some searching they found a used one'. The Beachville Fire Department was looking for a bigger van and want ed the old van to stay within the fire’ sejj/ice. Crawford said $3,000 was donat ed by the Homecoming Comittee, and the other $500 was raised at the last firemen's breakfast. The Brus sels Optimist Club have also donat ed $3,000 to equip the inside," said Crawford. The van will be used for men to ride in and will help response time by enabling the men to finish suit ing up enroute. Also the van will stay at the fire so any equipment will be close at hand.
