Brussels UCW guest shares memories of Christmas past On Dec. 3 the Christmas meeting of the Brussels UCW was held in the church basement with an excellent attendance of members and guests. At 6:30 p.m. president Rene Richmond, welcomed everyone. The blessing was sung and everyone sat down to a bountiful potluck dinner. Following the dinner, Christmas carols were sung. Michelle Cousins, Pamela Cousins and Kari Bell entertained with piano solos. Gert Kellington led the worship. She read a poem about the first Happenings at Huronlea By Olive Sproul A number of us continued bowling every Thursday afternoon all through October. We had a special celebratory lunchtime banquet the first Thursday in November at Huronlea. Janet Hastings had the highest average score, while Bob Topham had highest score in an individual game. Bob is fairly happy to be here at Huronlea. He's Cathy Bridge's father. We had our first Buddies "R" Us meeting on Nov. 7. My buddy turned out to be half of a set of twins, Jacob and Jamie Crosby. Jacob seems very bright, polite and attractive. Our residents took the children to their hearts. They reveled in the warm and sincere affection that bubbled so effortlessly from each child and showed in the spontaneous hugs and comforting pats bestowed on each child's particular buddy. There was a great deal of rivalry among the children as to who had the smartest, the prettiest, the oldest. Elsie was a great favourite since she was, not only the oldest one living in the facility, she's affectionate and terrifically witty. Henry and Levi Carter continue to be popular and, since I'm good at quizzes, I'm also popular. Ashley Keffer, my first little buddy was unwilling to let the relationship lapse and has visited me every chance she's had for the last two years, making me clever cards for all the holidays that arise. We were both happy as clams when tire opportunity arose for us to be buddies once again, when Grades 5 and 6 entertained us with a short program. I believe Mrs. White is their teacher. The United Church has begun serving delicious dinners on Thursday at noon and some residents are taking advantage of the opportunity to eat out for a reasonable price. Bureau drop-off in Blyth Blyth and area people wanting to donate to the Christmas Bureau need not drive far. For the second year in a row, a drop off for donations has been set up at Blyth Memorial Hall. Orga nizer Lynda Lentz said that the drop-off was very successful last year and can be a model for other villages in the^county." Christmas and the legend of the robin. This was followed by prayer. Sarah Stephenson read the scripture "The Christmas Story". Mrs. Kellington introduced the guest speaker Thelma Steinman, of RR 3, Brussels. She spoke about the memories of Christmas since her childhood. She also spoke about the birth of Jesus, and how important God was and is, in her life through good and rough times. She sang appropriate songs while playing the ukulele. Mrs. Richmond thanked her for her inspiring message and We welcome you to come and worship with us. Rev.
