Children conduct Knox United service The Dec. 7 service of the Knox United Church, Auburn was conducted by the Sunday School children. Sunday School Superintendent Anne Vincent welcomed members and visitors to the service. The advent candle was lit for the second Sunday of Advent. The nursery and kindergarten classes gave a presentation "Five Little Doves", with the help of their teachers, Sandra Popp and Bev Lecomte. The service continued with the older classes telling the Christmas story through songs and poems. A new twist to the story was that it was called "If it could happen there, whv not here?" "If it could happen then, why not now?" The old old story, told by Charlotte Worsell and performed by members of the Sunday School classes, was mirrored by a modem version. The following questions were answered throughout the service: "Who would have seen the miracle?" "Who would have brought the gifts?" "Who would have taken them in?" Brett Bean, Lisa Carter, baby Alexandra Hulley were Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus for the old story while Robbie Archambault, Angelica Sturzenegger and baby Madison Chamney-Lumley were for the modem day version. A poem called "Christmas Questions" was then recited by Leanne Vincent and Erika Sturzenegger. The Sunday School members then joined in singing 1 Believe in Bethlehem. A social time followed the service. Bible group studies Psalm 29 There was a good attendance of the Bible Study members at the United Church, Auburn on Dec. 2 at 2 p.m. The singing of Christmas carols opened the meeting, with Marjorie McDougall playing and Rev. P. Ross conducting. Lunch was then served by Kay Lapp and Marion Haggitt, assisted by Teresa Roetcisoender and Betsey Verwey. Study was on Psalm 29 on the power of God. In nature people see these wonders every day and know that although there are storms God is there and peace and comfort will come to His people. The second Psalm was 131. It speaks of a person who is not involved in matters that are beyond his scope. He follows God's rules and is at peace. Rev. Ross closed with prayer. This was the last seasonal meeting. Dorothy Grange thanked Rev. Ross for teaching so well and presented him with a Christmas gift from the group. Everyone will look forward to studying again in 1998.
