Good turnout at bingo
A good crowd attended the
annual turkey bingo on
Wednesday, Dec. 3 sponsored by
the Belgrave Kinsmen. There were
two raffle draws which were won
by Jane Grasby and Diane
Kraeman.
The winners of the children's
games were: Leanne Elston (two
games), J. D. Shiell, Ashley Lewis,
Claren Yuill, Erin Sanders, Tammy
Frieburger.
Winners of share the wealth or a
turkey were Alice Yuill, Janet
Haines, George Michie, Vicki
Blake, Mike Cottrill (two), Isabel
Campbell, Mary Robinson, Betty
Armstrong, Laura Johnston, Debbie
McPherson and Bill Eckmier. The
kinsmen appreciate the support for
this annual event.
Isabel Campbell donated the
children's prizes.
Greeting worshippers and
handing out service of worship at
Knox United Church on the second
Sunday of Advent, Dec. 7, were
Jamie and Susan Robinson. A
Christmas tree and several
poinsettias decorated the church.
Rev. Mary Jane Hobden
welcomed everyone prior to song
time. The selected hymns were
Blessed Assurance and Beyond the
Sunset, followed by Silent
Meditation and the Call to Worship
read responsively. The Prayer of
Approach was said in unison.
Melanie, Meagan and Scott
Pletch lit the advent candle and
read the reading after the singing of
The Advent of our God.
Hope is a Star was sung,
followed by Prayer of Confession
said in unison.
The mixed senior choir sang Lift
Up Your Heads.
The Old Testament reading was
from Malachi 3:1-4, followed by
the singing of Go Tell It on the
Mountain.
The children gathered in the front
pew for story time. Rev. Hobden
asked "What are you excited
about?" Answers were Jesus' birth,
Christmas tree, presents, little
brothers and sisters even though
they aren't wrapped up. Children,
she said, are a present. Jesus is a
blessing as are family and homes.
"We can all be a blessing to other
people. Part of God's gift is peace
just like the dove."
The children adjourned to
Sunday School. Andrea Stevenson
was in charge of nursery.
The New Testament reading was
from Luke 1:68-79 read
responsively. The gospel lesson
was from Luke 3:1-6.
The congregation sang There's a
Voice in the Wilderness.
The sermon was based on
"Getting Ready for Christmas" and
the second Sunday of Advent -
second Sunday of peace. It is a
time for forgiveness of sins. True
peace is a place that the people of
Israel hoped for.
Doreen Mark and Joyce Vincent
took up collection, followed by the
offertory song All That I Am".
Prayers of the People, The Lord's
Prayer, O Come All Ye Faithful,
sending forth, commissioning and
Threefold Amen. "Go Now in
Peace" concluded the worship
service.
Thursday, Dec. 11, the afternoon
unit meeting will be held at 2 p.m.
at Kay Roberts'.
Knox Sunday School Christmas
Concert is in the Women's Institute
Hall on Friday, Dec. 12 at 7:30
p.m. Anyone who would like to
add their talents to the program can
contact Mary Jane 357-4561 or
Kim Me Arter at 887-6027.
A reminder that all are invited to
bring donations for the Christmas
Bureau.
John McIntosh has once again
provided a selection of his
Christmas tapes and Favourite
Hymns tape. They are available at
the back of the church for $7.
Also, John has supplied a video
tape of the "Songs of Our Faith"
concert which can be picked up at
the office for viewing.

just returned from a trip to

there they took in the Roger
Whittaker Show and toured the
Christmas lights of Olgbay Park.

Jordyn visited with her parents,
Ross and Barbara Anderson on the
