Sports Blyth Bantams win 2 The Blyth Bantam hockey club has now won 10 straight games with wins over Milverton and Elma-Logan. Blyth travelled to Milverton on Nov. 20 and came home with a 7-2 victory. Shawn Bromley and Dave Ansley each scored twice with singles going to Graham Worsell Craig Marks and Bryce Toll. Assists went to Worsell, two; Nathan Shannon, two; Joel Arthur, two; Adam Anderson; Matt Anderson; Ansley and Toll. Ryan Lee and Dean Wilson provided steady goaltending for the winners. On Nov. 24, Blyth hosted Elma- Logan and dumped them 8-2. Derek Cook and M. Anderson led the way with two goals each. Other goalscorers were A. Anderson, Marks, Ansley and Toll. Credited with assists were Cook, two; Marks, two; Worsell; Arthur and Tyler Stewart. Travis Campbell and D. Wilson played well in the Blyth net. Bulls lose to Mount Forest The Brussels Bulls travelled to Mount Forest to take on the Patriots last Friday night. The Patriots went on the board first at 9:29 but 15 seconds later the Bulls scored to tie the game when Jason Heipel converted a pass from Steve Henderson and Brett Fischer. Mount Forest scored short- handed at the 1:18 mark to take a one-goal lead into the second period. The score remained 2-1 in the second until Mount Forest scored two to take a 4-1 lead into the third period. The Patriots scored three unanswered goals to make the final score 7-1. The Bulls' next game will be back in Mount Forest at 8:30 p.m. this Friday, then in Kincardine on Saturday night. The final game of the weekend will bee at home to those same Mount Forest Patriots at 2 p.m. at the BMG Community Centre. BULLS' NOTES: The Bulls hope to announce the name of their new coach this week. He should be on their bench for the games this weekend. Madill team WOSSA winners Three Brussels boys, Nathan Garland, Andrew Exel and Adam Carr, are members of the F.E. Madill Secondary School senior boys volleyball team who captured the WOSSA championship, Friday. However, a bigger thrill for the entire school, was the fact that this is the first time in Madill history that the senior boys volleyball team has advanced to OFSSA. Though the squad started out slowly on their home turf in Wing­ ham, the team woke up, with some encouragement, said Coach Audrey Bos. Madill went up against Ingersoll in the first match, losing 14-16 and 9-15. After a 5-15 defeat at the hands of Arthur-Voaden, St. Thomas, in the first game of the second round, the team hit the floor for a 15-3 vic­ tory, to begin the turnaround Madill went undefeated in the rest of their round-robin games, beating St. Michael's, Stratford, 15- 6 and 15-10; Stratford Central, 15-1 and 15-0 and Medway, 15-3 and 15-1. The improved play put them sec­ ond in their pool, bringing them up against Stratford Central in the playoffs. The teams were paired Saturday afternoon in the B Division of the 24th annual Brussels Optimist tournament this past weekend. The A championship was won by Mitchell, which defeated North London 3-1. Mount Forest defeated St. Marys 5-1 for the B title. Played over two weekends, the tournament had 32 teams in two divisions. Brussels Novices lose 1, win 1 This was a very busy week for the Brussels Novice team. Wednesday night they travelled to Zurich for a well-matched game. Brussels started the scoring in the first period with Chris Corbett and Matt White both getting unassisted goals. Zurich came back quickly with three quick goals of their own. The second period started with Zurich scoring first then Adam McClure put one past the Zurich goaltender on a pass from Greg Bowers. White tied up the game with a pass from defenseman Adam Corbett. The third period saw both teams striving to gain control. Zurich got two quick goals to go ahead of Brussels, but with less than a minute left A. Corbett came up with defense and scored the last goal of the game to end it 6-5 for Zurich. Brussels meets this team on Friday, Dec. 5 in Brussels at 6:30 p.m. On Friday night, the Novices travelled to Milverton, where Brussels dominated the scoring. Mitch Blake, playing defense, shot the puck from the blueline to start off the scoring. The second period saw no goals for either team. In the third period, White scored on a pass from Bowers and McClure. Bowers then got a goal on a pass from White. C. Corbett ended the scoring on a pass from Cory Chapman. Brussels defeated Milverton 4-0. Saturday morning the team travelled to Monkton.
