Brussels Livestock report Miller beef veal weighs 690, sells for $127 The sales at Brussels Livestock for the week ending Nov. 21 were: fed cattle, 599; cows, 374; veal and bob calves, 459; lambs and goats, 119; and Stockers, 2,378. The fed steers and heifers are selling actively at prices $2 to $4 higher. Cows are selling $2 to $3 higher. Veal were selling $2 to $4 higher. Lambs were trading on a strong market. All classes of Stockers were selling on a steady trade. There were 319 steers on offer selling from $90 to $95 to the high of $104. Thirty-seven steers consigned by Cunningham Farms, Lucan, averaging 1,409 lbs. sold for an average of $92.02 with sales to $104 purchased by MGI Packers. Five steers consigned by Jim Howatt, Londesboro, averaging 1,319 lbs. sold for an average of $96.22 with sales to $100. Nineteen steers consigned by Glen Martin, Clifford, averaging 1,313 lbs. sold for an average of $90.92 with sales to $99.25. Two steers consigned by Alex Hammond, Monkton, averaging 1,178 lbs. sold for an average of $95.99 with sales to $98. Thirteen steers consigned by Schmidt Brooks Farms Inc., Woodstock, averaging 1,410 lbs. sold for an average of $92.20 with sales to $95.50. Cardiff 4-H award Kelly McNee of Dungannon, a member of the Port Albert Life Skills Club, was named winner of the Murray Cardiff Citizenship Award at the annual 4-H Awards Day held in Clinton, Sunday. The award goes to the 4-H mem­ ber who has contributed in some way to their 4-H clubs and their community. McNee was one of eight nominees for the award. The others included: Sandra Alton, Luc­ know Beef Club; Heather Becker, Huron County Goat Club; Debby Hoggart, Chinchilla and Maple Syrup Club; Derek Maloney, Huron Sheep Club; Katie McNeil, Hallrice Dairy Club; Taylor Park, Port Albert Club; and Melissa Wal­ lace, Chinchilla Club. The Paul Steckle Award for the 4-H Junior Member with the top essay on the topic of “Proud to be a Canadian” went to Sarah Broad­ foot, RR5, Clinton. Tim Wilkins of RR3, Lucknow, a member of the Lucknow Beef Club, won the Warden’s Novice Award, (donated by Murray Keyes, warden of Huron County) as the novice member with the highest standing on the Basis of Awards in Huron County. with sales to $94. Twelve steers consigned by Gord Hem, Granton, averaging 1,359 lbs. sold for an average of $91.41 with sales to $93. There were 254 heifers on offer selling from $90 to $95 to the high of $100. Eleven heifers consigned by Hugh Love, Atwood, averaging 1,155 lbs. sold for an average of $92.52 with sales to $100 purchased by Norval Meat Packers. Twenty-two heifers consigned by F. J. Among local winners, John Storey of Winthrop won the Huron County Pork Producers’ Award for being the reserve champion show­ man at the Seaforth Fall Fair. The Bergsma Award, donated by Bruce and Marie Bergsma of Londesboro, was won by Robert Vanden Hoven, RR4, Seaforthi Denise Kreutzwiser, RR4, Wal­ ton, won both first place and third place in the 4-H press reporter competition sponsored by Signal- Star Publishing. Second place was won by Allan Storey of Winthrop. Corey Rintoul, RR2, Lucknow, won the Maple Ridge Beef Farm Award as the Champion Dairy Showman at the Seaforth Fall Fair. She also won a Stan Jackson Award for exhibiting the Grand Champion Beef Steer at the Seaforth Fall Fair. Amy Bames, RR5, Brussels, won the Koostra Farms Award for being the novice member in the 4-H Goat Club with the highest score. for an average of $86.86 with sales to $89.25.
