active role in service
Knox United Church was
privileged to have Andrea Postma
and Shannon Scott of Londesboro
take an active part in the service on
Sunday, Nov. 23. The girls are
active in Sunday School work and
in music and drama.
The opening hymn was They'll
Know We are Christians by our
Love and the children came to the
front. One of the girls spoke to
them about parents always
considering them nuisances or
doing the wrong thing. She
whispered a way to combat this and
the children in groups went here
and there to hide in the church. Of
course, parents missed them and
they were called back.
Praise and love should be shown
to children.
Rev. Ross then prayed with the
children. Jesus Loves the Little
Children was sung. The children
went to Sunday School classes.
Service continued with guests
speaking about the kind of world
God wants and how this could be
1B
accomplished. Scripture was given
from Mark, where people brought
children to Christ and He
welcomed them. He considered
them part of His kingdom and
blessed them. The hymn Jesus
Loves Even Me was sung.
The girls spoke on how to make a
child feel valued. Highlights were
given on a UN report on children of
this world. Here, it is hard for us to
realize the lives of children living
in other countries, children doing
men’s work for long hours daily,
insufficient food, etc. It is heart
breaking.
Rev. Ross led in a thought
provoking prayer where the
congregation sang a choral
response throughout. It closed with
a modem translation of The Lord's
Prayer.
Collection was received followed
by the doxology and offertory
payer.
The service closed with There is
Sunshine in My Soul Today and
benediction.

Silver Tops enjoy potluck
The Silver Tops met at the Hall
in Auburn at 12 noon on Nov. 19.
Grace was sung and a delicious
potluck dinner enjoyed.
President Margaret Hildebrand
opened the business meeting with a
reading "Smile A While". It was
decided to have Christmas dinner a
week earlier on Dec. 10. Maxine
Seers will cater again this year.
Members are to invite others for
this occasion.
A thank you letter was read from
Louise Hayter and medical cards,
which she sent were distributed. An
article from The Voice concerning
the planned change in the Old Age
Pension Fund was read. There is
danger of loss of two credits.
Margaret Hildebrand read, "The
Senior Prayer", which had been
said at Grand Bend. It was decided
to use it at future meetings.
The secretary read her report and
the treasurer, Ell Lapp gave the
treasurer's report.
Pictures were then shown of
Margaret and John Hildebrand's
trip to Newfoundland with their son
Eldo and family. They had a six-
hour ferry ride from the mainland.
The pictures showed the
ruggedness of Newfoundland, an
island of mountains, rocks, rivers
and glaciers. Farms are small and
there are no large forests. Fishing
and mining are the main industries.
Pictures were shown of a bed and
breakfast home where they stayed -
a high ceilinged three-storey house
with practically no lawn.
The landig sport of the vikings
and their type of homes were
shown and they saw Matthew,
John, Cabot's boat.
The Hildebrands were thanked
for their talk and pictures which
were enjoyed.
