Auburn™The news from [Compiled by Kay Lapp Young women take Phone 526-7264 active role in service Knox United Church was privileged to have Andrea Postma and Shannon Scott of Londesboro take an active part in the service on Sunday, Nov. 23. The girls are active in Sunday School work and in music and drama. The opening hymn was They'll Know We are Christians by our Love and the children came to the front. One of the girls spoke to them about parents always considering them nuisances or doing the wrong thing. She whispered a way to combat this and the children in groups went here and there to hide in the church. Of course, parents missed them and they were called back. Praise and love should be shown to children. Rev. Ross then prayed with the children. Jesus Loves the Little Children was sung. The children went to Sunday School classes. Service continued with guests speaking about the kind of world God wants and how this could be 1B accomplished. Scripture was given from Mark, where people brought children to Christ and He welcomed them. He considered them part of His kingdom and blessed them. The hymn Jesus Loves Even Me was sung. The girls spoke on how to make a child feel valued. Highlights were given on a UN report on children of this world. Here, it is hard for us to realize the lives of children living in other countries, children doing men’s work for long hours daily, insufficient food, etc. It is heart­ breaking. Rev. Ross led in a thought­ provoking prayer where the congregation sang a choral response throughout. It closed with a modem translation of The Lord's Prayer. Collection was received followed by the doxology and offertory payer. The service closed with There is Sunshine in My Soul Today and benediction. Area residents tour Branson A Regency Tour for a Country Christmas Celebration in Branson, Missouri was enjoyed by people from Blyth, Clinton, Goderich and surrounding area beginning on Nov. 10. They had an excellent driver, Bill Sickle of Glen Morris and Betty Anne Elphick of Lucknow, a very capable tour guide. All lodgings, coming and going, were excellent. A number of shows were seen, including Andy Williams, the violinist Shopji Tabuchi, the Osmond family and Bobby Vinton to name a few. They were all enjoyable. Tours were also taken into the Ozark Hills and to see the Christmas lights in the Port of Lights in Old Branson. The lights UCW meets Due to illness the Bible Study was cancelled on Nov. 18. It will be held this week at Bernice Anderson's home. The community is sorry to learn that Lois Haines is a patient in Clinton Hospital. Marion Haggitt has been ill also. We trust that they both will be better soon. Knox UCW meets at 8 p.m. on Dec. 1 at Maxine Seers home. Offering is for Christian Blind Mission. Donations of non- perishable foods for the Christmas Bureau would be appreciated. were simply beautiful. Misfortune came to two women on the trip - one broke her ankle and the other sprained her wrist. It was certainly a tour that will be remembered. Silver Tops enjoy potluck The Silver Tops met at the Hall in Auburn at 12 noon on Nov. 19. Grace was sung and a delicious potluck dinner enjoyed. President Margaret Hildebrand opened the business meeting with a reading "Smile A While". It was decided to have Christmas dinner a week earlier on Dec. 10. Maxine Seers will cater again this year. Members are to invite others for this occasion. A thank you letter was read from Louise Hayter and medical cards, which she sent were distributed. An article from The Voice concerning the planned change in the Old Age Pension Fund was read. There is danger of loss of two credits. Margaret Hildebrand read, "The Senior Prayer", which had been said at Grand Bend. It was decided to use it at future meetings. The secretary read her report and the treasurer, Ell Lapp gave the treasurer's report. Pictures were then shown of Margaret and John Hildebrand's trip to Newfoundland with their son Eldo and family. They had a six- hour ferry ride from the mainland. The pictures showed the ruggedness of Newfoundland, an island of mountains, rocks, rivers and glaciers. Farms are small and there are no large forests. Fishing and mining are the main industries. Pictures were shown of a bed and breakfast home where they stayed - a high ceilinged three-storey house with practically no lawn. The landig sport of the vikings and their type of homes were shown and they saw Matthew, John, Cabot's boat. The Hildebrands were thanked for their talk and pictures which were enjoyed. President, Tina Empey welcomed everyone and gave a reading on "The Oyster" with a very true ending. Secretary Evelyn Flett and treasurer Laura Mae Chamney gave their reports. Both were approved. Gifts or money for the needy children will be received at the December meeting. Jean Plaetzer reported on the convention in Embro. She gave an outline of subjects where members could assist. Tina Empey showed a new WI ribbon - a plaid in blue, gold, green and red. Erma Cartwright introduced Irene Cantelon, Clinton.
